HUNTER - Adopted June 30, 2015
Male, 3 years, pit bull X, 56 lbs
Meet our handsome guy Hunter! Hunter is a black and white pit bull mix. He is around 3 years old and currently weighs 56 pounds. This big boy is short and stocky. He has big shoulders and a narrow waist. Hunter is sporting his short cropped ears and his long crooked tail. Such a handsome boy; looking like he is ready to go out on the town. All he needs now is a bow-tie! He will need a strong handler; Hunter likes to pull and is very strong on a leash. If you are looking for a fun, outgoing, full of energy type of companion, then Hunter maybe for you. He is quite entertaining to watch him play and chase after his toys. Hunter has passed his entire safer dog tests and has done well when meeting other dogs. He is more on the dominant side and would do best with a more submissive kind of dog. If given some obedience training, Hunter could become a more mannered dog.

BEAST - ADOPTED June 30, 2015
Male, 1 year, pit bull X, 80 pounds
Meet our very handsome boy Beast! Beast is a grey and white Pit bull mix who is around 1 year old. He has been neutered and is current on all his vaccinations. Beast is a big boy, who weighs in at a whopping 80 pounds. This sweet dog was found wandering the streets with another dog and was more than happy to see the animal control officer show up. Since his stay at the shelter he has become one of the staff and volunteers favorite. Beast loves everyone he meets. He has passed his entire "Safer Dog" test and has been observed to do well when meeting other dog. We would not recommend Beast around cats, he likes to bark at them and if given the chance he would more than likely chase them. He loves being around people and is eager to make new friends. Beast enjoys going on walks and playing with toys. If you are interested in adopting Beast, he will need a strong handler. He is very strong and will pull some when walking on a leash.

TUCKER-Adopted Jun 30/15
Male, 8 yrs, Terrier/Chihuahua X, 11 lbs
What the foster family has to say:
Tucker is a cuddler and loves his belly scratched. He will nudge your hand if you stop petting him before he feels you're done. He is good with small dogs. The bigger dogs he is a bit nervous around but not aggressive.
He is friendly and not yappy. Tucker, Loves Loves Loves being outside and going for walks and gets very excited when you get his leash. Don't let his age make you think he can't keep up as a 6k walk hardly puts a dent in his energy level.
He enjoys car rides and gets very excited to see a cat with barking and a wagging tail. My feeling is with time he won't get as excited especially if the cat is to give him a correction as they are about the same size.
He has not been introduced to small children but I'm guessing school aged kids would be fine.

FANA-Adopted Jun 29/15
Female, 2 years, Chihuahua X, 8 pounds
What the foster mom has to say:
She is a sweet little girl with lots of energy and wiggles. I weighed her yesterday and she's 8 lbs. She's a bit 'mouthy' but not nipping. A bit bouncy and she gets very excited wanting attention but calms quickly when petted. She did very well on leash on a long walk yesterday. Unsure of strangers but inquisitive. We approached a mother and a young child and she barked and growled but was able to be calmed and was clearly scared not aggressive. The mother and child had a chihuahua at home so were aware of the the type of behavior. She licked the mom's fingers but wouldn't go to the child.
She hasn't engaged with my cat at all! Interesting to see if that changes once she gets a little more confident of her surroundings. Sleeps in the crate at night wonderfully and is not frigidity or noisy. Going to the bathroom outside just fine. She's in an x-pen today while I'm at work so we'll see when I go home at lunch what the morning was like!

RIVER-Adopted Jun 26/15
Male, 1 years, Chihuahua X, 15 lbs
What his foster family has to say:
He is a very quiet and loving dog. Have yet to hear him bark even when the doorbell has gone off. Great with other dogs and very happy when out and about likes to meet everyone. Is slowly overcoming his apprehension with doors, and car rides. Has not had a single accident in the house. Tolerated but did not enjoy his bath. Loves to sleep under blankets. Is great on leash and understands basic commands. Is slowly learning his manners when it comes to people eating, thinks he can help himself to the food on your plate. But all in all a very good loving boy.

PATTY-Adopted Jun 26/15
Female, 3 years, Terrier X, 12 lbs
What her foster family has to say:
When we first arrived home, she was excitedly greeted by Angel, our German Sheppard/Chow cross and our cat, Bailey. Patty was a little overwhelmed at first, but has warmed up to Angel, still not too sure about Bailey. Of course, being a cat, Bailey is quite put out that Patty doesn’t love him, but I am sure he will get over it. Patty has stolen Angel’s bed, and Angel is ok with that. They are all getting to know each other.
Patty is a very happy little gal. Her tail is always going a mile a minute. She is a snuggler, and seemed very content to share my lap with the cat. Patty doesn’t lick and I have yet to hear her bark or whine. She just wants to be with her people.
She knows the command to sit, and when I say, inside or outside she knows where she is to go. She does require some space to go in and out of the door. If she feels like the door is blocked, she won’t go. We have noticed that if Angel or Bailey go to see what she is eating, Patty will run away. She tends to cower easily, as well. She is learning commands on the leash, I don’t think she has much experience with that.
This is only from a one day observation, so I am sure that in a few more days I will have more to share with you about Patty. Stay tuned!

BAMBI-Adopted June 25, 2015
Female, 6 yrs, Jack Russell Terrier, 13 lbs
What her foster in Calgary has to say:
Bambi is a high energy, friendly dog! She loves to get out on a long walk and does well on a leash. We go out twice a day and she loves that. She has displayed some nervousness when dogs are approaching or barking from a yard, but typically handles the situation well, with some whining &/or barking. She is fully house trained and very accepting of her kennel, as long as her bed is in there. Bambi is quite excited when I get home and can’t wait to get out and greet me and share her loving energy. She does tend to jump up and hop around with excitement, sometimes barking, which I am working on. She will sit and wait patiently for her harness to be put on to go out and wait for a command to get up.
Meal time is an ease, as long as her dry food is thoroughly mixed in with her wet food, anything not matching her standards does get spit out to the side of the bowl.
She interacts well with other dogs in a social meeting, both big and small. My male, dominant dog and her get along quite well. He’s even relinquished his favourite chair and blanket to her, without a dispute. She loves to snuggle and sort of reminds me of a cat, how she will lay on back of couch behind me and stick her nose in my hair and snuggle in.
Bedtime is an ease, she’s quite happy to snuggle into a blanket on the bed, but not before she flops on her back for a belly rub.
I haven’t had any experience yet with her meeting children, but older children would probably be the best match.
She is a great little dog, that adapts quite well to most anything. Loves car rides and would be a great fit to an active family or a single person.

CEDRIC-Adopted Jun 19/2015
Male, 1 yr, Puggle (Beagle/Pug), 29 lbs
What the foster family has to say:An update on this amazing guy: since we posted his bio we've spent some more time with Cedric around other dogs...turns out his barking is just sheer excitement. Cedric LOVES other pups. He is very submissive once he's had his sniff and loves to play with everyone. He is very reluctant to go separate ways though. He would definitely do well in a house with another dog who likes to play though he may be too much for more reserved dogs. Come out and meet this adorable dude and see for yourself.
Cedric is a happy-go-lucky dog who is still very much a puppy and has loads of potential. He loves people and is quick to roll over for anyone and everyone – including small children! He is a definite people pup and we’ve had to accompany him outside in order to get him to eliminate. Despite his reluctance to be outside by himself he is pretty well house trained and has only had a few incidents. Since then we’ve praised him for going outside and he has gotten accustomed to our schedule. We are working on getting him interested in toys to help him with being alone and we’ve seen improvement over the last few days in his barking and crying though he is still quite anxious when we leave or go to bed. Cedric has started going into his crate voluntarily (if food is involved) and going to his comfy dog bed instead of the couch. He is prone to jumping up and counter surfing and will need someone patient to break those habits. Cedric does not know basic commands but has picked up sitting for food and sitting to be let in the house quite fast – definitely a very trainable guy!
Cedric is great on the walk and has a lot of energy so multiple walks a day are a must! He will run or walk right beside you, (when the beagle in him isn’t nose-deep in the grass) and if he does start to pull he reacts to corrections quickly. He’s even started to learn to sit when we pause before crossing streets! He puts up a big show when he sees dogs and cats but we think it’s because he’s a scaredy-cat putting on a brave face. He calmed down after some extended exposure to cats, but we think he’ll need some more help socializing with other pups. Overall he’s an energetic loving guy who will be a wonderful addition to a home that will give him some attention and carry on his basic training.

BUDDY - Adopted June 6, 2015
Male, 6 yrs, Jack Russell Terrier, 16 lbs
What the foster has to say:
Buddy is taking some time to settle in, he is just beginning to show his personality so this may not be the whole story:
Buddy is a gentle, polite and quite dog. He is fully house trained and is comfortable in his kennel. Buddy loves to hang with his people, whether it is hiking, running errands or lounging on the couch he is adaptable and accepting. Buddy knows how to sit and stay, he is food motivated which makes him easy to work with. Buddy likes squeaky toys and stuffed toys although they don’t last long ; ). Buddy likes to dig at gopher holes when we are at Nose Hill but has not done any digging in our yard to date. Buddy is uncomfortable around high energy dogs and high energy kids, he demonstrates nervous/dominant behavior when meeting or approaching new dogs at the park. We are working with him on his social skills to neutralize this behavior. Buddy walks very well on a leash using a harness which makes it easy to ensure that socialization can be controlled.

Smokey Too - Adopted June 7, 2015
Breed: APBT x
Age: 03/18/2009
Gender: Neutered Male
Colour:Blue & White
Size/Weight: Medium 48lbs
Update from his foster home:
Smokey definitely pulls very hard on leash with anyone walking him and if he is not pulling then he is sitting braced so you have to pull him…and that is with the new non-pull harness I bought him.
We have been working with him and he is better than he was the first day or so but definitely not a huge improvement yet. Also, he has had no contact with other dogs since the first day as he is a little aggressive and scares (dogs and people) so we are walking him off to the side and just waiting for some guidance at the obedience classes that start tomorrow!
He is smart but he is extremely stubborn. He follows either me or Kevin everywhere we go. We are still trying everything we can to get him to not cry and bark and try to escape the whole time he is in his crate…whether its 2 minutes or 2 hours.
Another thing that is an issue is that he doesn’t do recall at all. Almost like he doesn’t know his name. He is starting to a little, with treats of course etc., but doesn’t come back at all if he gets away from you (ie he slipped out the front door a couple of times the first week and we had to just chase him and corner him and put a leash on him to get him home….and he thought it was a super fun game! This is the other main thing on our list with the obedience classes starting tomorrow.
What the foster home has to say:
Smokey is doing well, has settled in and improved leaps and bounds from when he arrived on Friday night. For example, he sleeps like a baby on a dog bed beside me (no more crying or restlessness). Also he was pulling was so bad he almost pulled my husband down the stairs on Saturday morning, then by yesterday afternoon my 16 year old son was able to walk him on the dog walk and though he is not great with cutting you off and changing sides etc., still, he did it without pulling at all really. He also now gives up his Kong (well you can walk right up and take it from him) without any mouthing at all as of yesterday afternoon. He doesn’t come when called though, so that’s another thing we need to focus on.

Oliver - Adopted June 7, 2015
Breed: Pit Bull X
Age: 4 years
Gender: Neutered/Male
Colour: Brown/White
Size/Weight: Medium/53.5 lbs
Bio:
Dogs: Yes
Cats: Unknown
Kids: Unknown
Oliver is your typical shy guy. He is very friendly and curious about everything. Once you have shown that you are his friend he will love you to the end of time. Food is his big motivator to which he will do anything and everything you ask of him. He is still learning how to properly walk on leash, but responds well to correction. Oliver is neutral around other dogs as he continues to get more socialization he will be more comfortable. He needs someone who can help channel his focus and teach him that the world is not a bad place. Even though he is shy don’t let that mask fool you for once he gets comfortable he may surprise you with his sprightly personality.
What his foster home has to say:
Oliver is a wonderful dog, gets along great with my 2 boxers. He is amazing with kids and very loving but also enjoys his quiet nap time and doesn't feel the need for constant attention . He is very calm and shows no signs of aggression at all. He has learned to walk well on a leash and harness and loves to run free and sniff everything ,he also listens very well and will come with a stern come here ,he will come faster if a treat is in hand. He is very smart and has learned the boundary of my yard in 2 days and does not leave it and is not bothered by the neighbors dogs on the other side of the trees. He is interested in my cat not hurting her but sniffing and getting his face too close to her, but he is also getting used to her quickly. He loves strong chew toys sleeping on his back belly rubs and long walks by the beach.....

Riley - Adopted June 4, 2015
Breed: AmStaff/Heeler x
Age: 3 years
Gender: Neutered/Male
Colour: Black/White
Size/Weight: Medium/45 Lbs
He's is such a love!!! This is also a no brainer boy. He loves walks or just hanging out with his people on the couch. He is very affectionate and loves everyone, He's excellent on leash with medium energy & good with people & kids & other dogs. No dog reaction to other dogs, lived in a foster with a small pomeranian for awhile & no interest in cats. He has an amazing temperament & isn't hyper but can keep up with any runner. He's super smart & I'm working with him now on housetraining. Has excellent recall off leash, listens to you, knows basic commands & generally a joy to be around.
He is currently staying at my house... I pulled him out of the boarding kennel to work with him & fine tune his skills. He really is another all around perfect dog. Doesn't chew, is crate trained although he doesn't require it-he's not destructive at all. Is excellent out in public with humans & other dogs.

SNOW WHITE - Adopted June 3, 2015
Female, 2 years, pit bull X
What her foster family had to say:
Just thought I would give you a small profile of Snow White so far. Since the moment she has walked through our doors, she has been so comfortable. She initially just met us the night we picked her up. There was lots of cuddles on the couch, and belly rubs. She went into her crate for "bedtime" and we didn't hear a peep. Upon meeting the kids, they were greeted with pittie wiggles, wagging tail, and big kisses. She adores the kids, and is always watching them, and if the toddler cries she runs right over to see him to check if he is okay. We gave her a bath, and she loved it, cooperating the whole time. She is extremely gentle with taking treats, just licks the treat up off your hand.. no food aggression, I have put my hand in the bowl while she is eating and she will just continue eating around my hand. She also goes to the door when she needs to go outside, but isn't vocal, so you need to watch her cues. She knows her boundaries and we have not allowed her upstairs by herself and she respects that. She knows it is off limits and stays downstairs. She absolutely thrives off of human companionship, and if you are not sitting down with her, she tends to follow you around. She is an amazing dog. She also knows her basic commands, and is extremely eager to learn, highly food motivated, really willing to work her treats. They say you can tell a rescued dog is so grateful to be saved and this girl is no exception. She is the sweetest dog. Anyone would be really lucky to have her.
What the shelter had to say:
She is a wonderful pittie mix. She has 2 different color eyes and sweet as can be. Gets along great with other large and small dogs.

Fabulous - Adopted June 2, 2015
Breed: Pit Bull X
Age: 2 years
Gender: Spayed/Female
Colour: Blue/White
Size/Weight: Medium/57.6 lbs
Bio:
Fabulous is just like her name. She walks very well on leash and has polite manners for humans and other dogs. She loves all the attention she can get and will calmly approach you. She learns at her own pace, but once she gets it SHE GETS IT! Fabulous is very friendly and enjoys being with her people or anyone that will give her the time of day.
From the foster:
Fabulous is doing great and coming out of her shell. She is a laid back and easy going dog. Her coat is so shiny now and she has filled out beautifully. She is well mannered in the house, loves our cat (they sleep together, so cute) and has not had an accident in the home, affectionate and happy.
Super food motivated she has mastered sit, down, look at me and walks nicely on the leash and gets into the truck and travels well.
She is gaining confidence and easily takes direction. We have found very gentle correction is working well. We are enrolled in a confidence booster class once a week with Two Paws Up. She is doing really well in the class and is used as the demo dog for all the exercises. We practice each day and she has really gained confidence and is getting into "happy go lucky" mode.
She sleeps in her crate and goes into it often throughout the day to sleep. She is so easy to handle, she would make a great first time dog as she has easily learned the routine of our home and is smart and respectful.
How Tuesdays class went and an update on Fabulous.
It was really good. There are only four dogs in the class - one dog that was scary reactive, the other one timid afraid. third one didn't show up. Fabulous was the most well adjusted, ha ha (she really just lacks confidence). She was used as the demo dog to show how to do the different exercises and she did most exercises pretty good. We are practising at home and my unconfident Staffie is learning the exercises right along side with Fabulous.
Next Tuesday I am going to take some picture of Fabulous and the instructor and post a blurb about the Confidence Booster class on BARCs facebook. I feel the exercises the instructor teaches are well worth learning for fearful dogs.
On the home front, Fabulous is coming out of her shell, she is starting to play with our dog, is good with the cat, no accidents. She is quite underweight so she is on a two hour feeding schedule which she is enjoying immensely. Very people orientated, smart and easily takes direction. Any correction is done very gently as she is very sensitive.

TIMBER-Adopted May 29, 2015
Male, 1.5 yrs, Chihuahua X, 15 lbs
What the foster family has to say:
Timber is a great dog. He is great with the kids and lets them pack him around. He is very curious and happy. He's an energetic dude and likes going for walks, has pretty good leash manners. He has no interest in my cat, just stared at it and didn't react until the cat hissed at him and then he just ran away. He loves his food and is not food aggressive. He gets along with other dogs and fits right into the pack. He does bark when someone new comes into the house but he stops pretty quickly. He is mastering the house training. He's a sweet boy who would love a family with children & other pets.

Yvonne -- Adopted May 28, 2015
Breed: APBT x
Age: 03/04/2014
Gender: Spayed Female
Colour:White & Brindle
Size/Weight: Medium 39 lbs
From the foster:
We have made a decision. we cannot adopt her selfishly. She needs a yard and other animals or older children to play with. If we had a fenced yard there would be no question. She is amazing. We already love her. We have been calling her Evey for short. We have come to know her as extremely gentle and loving. She loves to play with other dogs and loves running fur hours. She is very quiet. In the whole time we have had her she has barked three times. And only at squirrels. She has a very focussed prey instinct and would not hesitate to give chase. She loves sleeping as well. She gets on easily with any dog we have introduced her to. She has a gentle mouth and listens well inside the home. She pulls hard when walking on leash. So she is in need of training. She has almost no recall when off leash because she is too busy playing. As much as we want to keep her we just don't want to be the type of selfish people that adopt a dog with no foresight into what she really needs and enjoys.
Update from foster:
Hi I'm Yvonne. They call me Evey for short because I am so incredibly cute. I love to get lots of exercise. I love people, older children (I put up with younger children but they are not my favourite) and other dogs are my favourite. In fact, I can't get enough play time with other dogs big or small I love them all. So when I go to the off leash area I might be off socializing, leaping, running and playing for a long time. I would love to have a forever home that has a yard because off the leash is how I prefer to do my "business". I am fine in the house when you leave or in a crate. I like to get lots of sleep too. Although I love walking I need a bit of training not to pull or try and chase squirrels or birds so hang on tight. I also like running while you ride your bicycle. That gets me really tired out. It's best if I have a harness for that. I am really quiet. I only bark at birds and the odd squirrel it when I am playing really hard. Sometimes when I'm sleeping a snore to but I'm told it's cute.

RACHET - Adopted May 24, 2015
Male, Chihuahua x, 1.5 yrs, 17 lbs
What the foster home has to say:
Ratchet is fully kennel trained. He sleeps in his kennel at night and he also eats in his kennel. He enjoys spending time on the couch or on your lap. He is extremely friendly and great with people. He is good with other dogs. He is getting better with the cats but still has a tendency to want to chase them. He is great around our 6 year old. He can get excited and jumps on him but when told to get down he does. His obedience has gotten a lot better while we’ve been working on it. He is a very high energy dog and needs lots of attention and exercise. He loves being able to run around the acreage with my other dog who is twice his size.

EDNA-Adopted - May 21, 2015
Female, 3 yrs, Min Pin/Terrier, 13 lbs
What the foster family has to say:
Edna is a sweet cuddle monster that loves to eat, be curled under a fuzzy warm blanket and follow you around. She has no interest in the cat at this point, is great with my kids and hasn't had an accident but we are taking her out very regular to reinforce good behaviors and hopefully get the pattern set.
She follows you wherever you go and doesn't mind being held and carried. She will even turn and hug you occasionally. She attaches to her person very quickly and does not want to be without you so prepare for a shadow.
So far things have been excellent with Edna she loves playing dress up with my kids all 3 of them ages from 8 months to 5 years old. She can get a little fearful with how loud they can get but she's adjusting fine. She is a foodie!! Loves her food she is also a little sneaker and loves to sneak food away from baby and hide. We are working on her manners with that. Her favourite place right now is under the baby chair (obvious reasons) baby loves giving her food! She's also a huge cuddle bug loves to curl up next to you and hide her little face and sleep the afternoon away. She walks great on leash she isn't really fearful of being outside, just taking in all the sights and smells of everything. She does need a little guidance with being house trained and basic commands. Other than that she's great! Be warned though she snores and sounds like a little monster at night! Adds on to her cuteness though!

DOLLY-Adopted - May 19, 2015
Female, 2 yrs, Welsh Cardigan Corgi X, 19 lbs
What the foster family has to say:
Dolly is just a little sweetheart. She has a great temperament. Her tail is constantly wagging. She is happy to see us and loves to be around people. She hasn't barked yet but she cries periodically. We think she just wants some pets and loving. She is skittish and doesn't like loud sounds or fast movements. She walks well on a leash. Separation anxiety will be an issue with her. We have started training her to go to her bed, sit, down, etc. She isn't potty trained however there have been no accidents in the house. She is just let outside every couple of hours. When she gets into new situations she is unsure, hesitates and starts to shake. She just needs to build her confidence. We haven't seen any food aggression as of yet; however she is sneaky and has stolen food off our plates. If you lived on the streets like she did, it's understandable so training to curb that trait has also begun.

Loki (Star) - ADOPTED - May 21, 2015
Species: Dog
Breed: APBT Mix...
Colour: Brindle
Age/Weight: 11 months/ 40 lbs.
Bio:
Dogs: Dependant
Cats: Dependant
Kids: Yes
Loki (Star) is your typical happy, bouncy puppy. She is still learning her manners and how to be polite around other dogs. Supervision may be required at the beginning until she learns her boundaries, but she is a very fast learner. Her recall is excellent as well as walking on leash. Cats are a little fast and crafty for Loki and can lead her into a dark place where her prey drive can kick in. Once she warms up and has been given some boundaries she is an amazing dog! Oh and she absolutely LOVES kids!! She plays very nicely with them and gives as many kisses as she can. She is still young and has lots to learn. Loki needs an experienced owner who can give her the structure all puppies need.
From the foster:
Loki (Star)
Despite her name she is so sweet, huggy, cuddly and lovable. She is a puppy and has the puppy energy. She is excited but calm and not jumping all over everyone. She likes to be with you even when going outside to relieve herself. She likes to play with toys and sit for treat or 12.
She LOVES kids and yes can knock them over and pin them for kisses.
She will whine when you first put her in her kennel but does settle quickly. She loves to curl up and sleep on the couch with you for some veg time or get out for a walk or run.
She does seem very interested in small animals and has not harmed any but I think she should be placed without other animals as she can become intense and fixate if left alone. If you truly dedicated the training and reinforcement in time you may be able to consider other animals but thats a maybe.
Loki (Star) does not know her own strength and she will and has bowled other dogs over and been very rude. Unfortunately she has not learned where play ends and fight begins. Again she needs structured socialization in a training environment. Off leash is not recommended and discouraged until you have the express permission of you trainer after at least 1 if not more sets of classes.

Leia--ADOPTED - May 19, 2015
Breed: Pit Bull x Staffordshire
Age: 4 years
Gender: Spayed/Female
Colour: Blue/White
Size/Weight: Medium/48.2 lbs
Bio:
Dogs: Yes
Cats: Unknown (probably)
Kids: Unknown (probably)
Leia is gentle and quiet and very good on a leash. She sleeps through the night in her crate and loves to chew on bones. She knows 'sit' and 'shake a paw'. She is content being in a quiet environment or lying in her kennel. She is unsure of new people, but once she gets to know you she is very friendly and absolutely loves the attention! Leia is comfortable around other dogs and calmly approaches with curiousity. Walks good on leash and although she is a little slower on the learning curb, she will try tirelessly until she gets it right. Leia is an absolute doll who just needs the love and commitment from a family to call her own.
From the foster:
It's been a week since we got Leia, and she has really come a long way. She can go for long walks without limping, she is less scared of passing cars and likes to sniff and root around in the grass. She loves getting pets, and she LOVES her foster brother Joey. She hasn't had an accident in several days (when she did, she knew to go the puppy pad we have set up in the basement), and doesn't need to go in her crate as she has remembered her manners and doesn't misbehave in the house when left alone.
She has a nice shiny coat after I gave her a bath, and is filling out from all the good food she is eating

Talulah----- ADOPTED
Breed: APBT
Age: 3 Yrs
Gender: Spayed Female
Colour: Fawn/White
Size/Weight: Medium 65 Lbs
Stocky pittie girl/about 65 lbs. When we say a sweet happy wiggle butt kind of gal, this is her!! She loves everyone & everything. Very submissive to big dogs, gets along beautifully. She is intimidated at first when she is introduced to a little dog because most times, they are barky. Tululah is not a barker but she is super happy & does fine once she realizes they're just a... dog like her. No reaction to cats. Very unusual coloring - taupe/grey brindle w/the softest fur ever!! As you can see, she's been well fed & could use a bit of exercise to slim her down just a bit. She's so easy on leash & wants to please everyone. She'll cover you w/kisses & is excellent w/children... will happily be your lap dog at any time. She's another girl that will roll over & give you her tummy. Happy go lucky perfect family dog kind of girl. Good recall off leash.
From the foster
Talulah is a sweet happy wiggle butt kind of gal!! She has a lovely personality and has no problem warming up to people, especially the ladies. Belly rubs are a must in THIS relationship. Very submissive to big dogs and gets along beautifully, even with the littles she shows respect. Seeing as this girl is a genius she learns boundaries and rules of the house/people very quickly .Tululah is not a barker! She is super happy & does fine once she realizes they're just a dog like her. No reaction to cats. Everyone seems to fall in love with her fur and how unique and irresistible it is to touch! She walks like a champion! She is curious of the world around her, but if you continue on she will follow you with no problem. Her recall is astounding!
Talulah sleeps well on her bed and even has that cute pit bull snore. This girl has had a different life before receiving the Canadian courtesy and kennels/crates scare the bageezes out of her! It is a work in progress that will require patience, but overall she is content with being out of it. House training is also a work in progress as she is all confused about what is allowed and what is not. Besides a few quirks Talulah is an amazing little girl who will shower you in all the love and loyalty a dog can give. She will cover you with kisses and is excellent with children...also will happily be your lap dog at any time. She's another girl that will roll over & give you her tummy. Talulah would do great with any family that can give her all the cuddles and love she needs!

What the foster family has to say:
Lola is such a sweet little girl! You would never guess she's 10 years old. She loves to go outside and is quite energetic on our walks. She walks well on a leash and corrects easily. She loves to be near me and follows me around the house. Overall she is a very calm dog and we haven't even heard her bark yet. She also appears to be fully housetrained. She's good with our two small dogs and also good with the cats (although she can get a bit growly when they get too close, but this is improving). I think she would be awesome with kids as well. Overall, she has a very sweet personality and would love to be able to spend her retirement years in a loving home of her very own!

What her foster family has to say:
Layla was nervous on her way home but after a good sniff of the house and a quick bath she settled right in! She has been eating and drinking normally. Last night she slept right through in her new comfy bed with the stuffed toy she brought home with her. She's always looking for a tummy rub and cuddles, she just has so much love to give! Now that she's settling in her playful side is coming out and was great in her first walk around the neighbourhood. We couldn't be happier with her. She's such a little sweetheart and we can't wait for all the fun ahead of us!
Thank you so much for what you do and for giving us the gift of rescuing!

BEANS-Adopted May 12, 2015
Male, 2.5 yrs, Chi X, 14 lbs
What his foster family has to say:
Mr. Beans is a great little guy who loves to go for walks and have snuggles. He is very timid around young men and fearful of multiple adults in the same room, but loves kids! Beans is great with dogs and other than the occasional small growl he has shown no aggression at all.
Beans is fully kennel trained and due to being timid sometimes pops in there himself. He is also fully potty trained and loves to do his business outside with no problems. Beans is a beautiful, loving little guy (with the softest and shiniest coat ever!) who is looking for a calm forever home with a maximum of two adults.
Beans is a ladies man. He prefers the company of females. Men really scare him, but he is still a gentlemen and is not aggressive-just scared. Beans is completely potty trained and has not even made a single mess in the house - loves to go outside to do his business! He has shown zero aggression and is the perfect gentlemen with our very small Chihuahua even when it comes to food or his bed - pretty amazing boy :) He also has not barked even once! I think he has been taught basic commands previously and does listen but we are continuing to work on this. He is very respectful and doesn't jump up on the furniture or people unless invited. He loves to be outside and go for walks and he really starts prancing when walking with another pup. I am very sure that he would love to have another playful pup in his family!
Beans is such a wonderful boy with a great personality! He would fit a home with love, walk time and another dog!

MIDNIGHT-Adopted April 2015
Female, 2.5 yrs old, pit bull
What the foster family has to say:
OMG what a sweet lovable girl miss midnight is. Midnight just wants love and to be right next to you or on you (60lbs lap dog). That tail does nothing but go go go. She is fantastic with my 1.5 year old she almost avoids him so she doesn't run him over. She is fully house trained. She is amazing with my dog and teaching him proper manners. She does pull a bit on the leash at first but after a while calms down. Outside her nose just sniffs nonstop. No problem giving pets while eating. She doesn't like staying in her kennel and will whine because she wants to be next to you but does calm down when she know you are gone. Midnight is an amazing dog. Oh one more thing she knows her name and knows come and sit.
What the shelter has to say:
MIDNITE is a super sweet girl, and loves to cuddle! She is about 2 years old, spayed, up to date on shots, and looks a little like a Panda bear, very cute! MIDNITE loves Jack, our attendant. Whenever he's around she loves to be with him. She does have quiet times, but she is excited to be off leash when Jack is there.
MIDNITE came from a family with a 2 & 4 year old. They gave her up because they were having another baby and the house was too small.
MIDNITE has played a lot with several of our male dogs here.

KALISTA
Female, Pitbull x, 1.5 yrs, 44 lbs
What the foster family has to say:
Kalista is a great dog. She needs to be properly introduced to other animals. She is very laid back when she's the only animal in the house. Great on the leash does not pull and is always rubbing your leg while walking. Likes human contact, loves belly rubs, thinks she's a lap dog, lays in her bed and doesn't play with toys much. We are working on commands. She is not aggressive when you are around her food and is very gentle when treats are introduced. She does not mind the snow and loves to go for walks. She is a great cuddlier with very soft fur. She does not like going in the kennel but once inside she's great in there and just goes to sleep. Sleeps through the night & loves to snore. In the yard and off leash she sticks beside you.
Following is a B.A.R.C (Behavior Assessment and Reactivity Checklist) assessment done by the shelter staff. This checklist was created by Robert Cabral to fairly assess shelter dogs. You can visit his website at www.boundangels.org
What the shelter has to say:
When approaching the kennel she is friend and soft. She will give up her toy easily to the dog handler. With touched she softens and engages in licking, head nudges and rolls onto her back. She appears indifferent to food. When corrected by the handler, she easily responds. When handler shows dominance she responds well and gently. She does not interfere with the other dog eating. Overall friendly and relaxed, showing no signs of kennel stress. She does not jump up or bark. Very affectionate. A small girl with a beautiful coat. Doesn’t pull on a leash. She knows some commands. Will make a great addition to a family.

Overall friendly and relaxed, showing no signs of kennel stress. She does not jump up or bark. Very affectionate. A small girl with a beautiful coat. Doesn’t pull on a leash. She knows some commands. Will make a great addition to a family.

PATTI-Adopted April 1, 2015
Female, 9 yrs, Terrier X, 17 lbs
Patti is an adorable senior dog who needs a loving home. She is blind or partially blind so only sees shadows. She is a trooper and gets around just fine. She needs a home that can keep a watchful eye on her while she learns her surroundings. She is eager to find her special home.
What the foster mom has to say:
Hi my name is Patti and I'm a bouncing nine years old! I may be blind but that sure doesn't slow me down and I sure do have great hearing. I have no problem keeping up with my furry buddies and I love going for walks and I'm sure a good girl on the leash I don't pull at all! I'm usually calm and quiet girl and love my snuggle time (belly rubs are the way to my heart) but if you want to play I'm ready to go and get really excited! Most of the day I spend wandering around making sure I know where everything is but I'm a good girl and when nobody's home I curl up and have a snooze. I love my treats and will do anything for them if you have treats we could be good friends. I'm also a good girl about going outside to the potty. If you love to snuggle and don't mind me following you around we could be best friends forever! With all my love and hope for my forever family yours truly Miss Patti xox

BECKY-Adopted Mar 29, 2015
Female, Pitbull x, 4 yrs, 56 lbs
What her foster family has to say:
Arya (Becky) is a very affectionate and peopled oriented dog. She loves attentions and all the cuddles she can get. Her recall to her new name Arya, meaning precious; noble is astounding and will immediately respond. Very responsive and a fast learner towards corrections and training.
On walks can slightly pull, but is easy to correct. She loves to investigate everything going on in the world and even with stands the cold temperatures to explore. Arya has found out that toys are AMAZING!!! She will tirelessly play fetch all day and even a game of tug of war with a fellow dog. Also, she can be a hoarder of bones and toys in her crate, which she loves and will contently stay in whenever she wants.
Arya is a dominant female and is uneasy about new situations. She warms up quickly to humans after a proper introduction. We are working on her greets towards other dogs and so far has proven to have polite manners, but sometimes gets over excited. Sit stays help keep her focus on her human rather than the distraction and with more socialization she will be confident enough not to worry.
In general Arya is an amazing dog who will be loyal and forever loving to everyone who gives her the time of day. She enjoys an active life as well as long naps during the lazy days. She has tons of potential and will not let you down.
Following is a B.A.R.C (Behavior Assessment and Reactivity Checklist) assessment done by the shelter staff. This checklist was created by Robert Cabral to fairly assess shelter dogs. You can visit his website at www.boundangels.org
What the shelter has to say:
Becky is very playful and excitable to people at the kennel. Appeared to become apprehensive and unsure of assessor. Looks very curious but remains at a distance. Becomes very excitable and heads to the front of the kennel when the leash is in view. When touched, accepts touch and prefers the touch of assessor over the play with a toy offered. Has friendly food behaviour and knows to sit for a reward. Becky redirects quickly and moves into a sit position waiting for direction. Regarding dominance, does not melt all the way, becomes slightly confused and pushes back a little. Dog became very excited at the site of another dog. Seemed friendly but follows with a focus. Pulls strongly toward the other dog. Dog would not take food offered due to focus on the other dog present. Seemed to be interested in sniffing the food more. No aggression present. Overall, dog is strong and high energy and gets over stimulated. Very food motivated. Will need an active home. Needs to be supervised when interacting with other dogs.

CANDY-ADOPTED MAR 29, 2015
Female, 3 yrs, Chi x, 9 lbs
What the foster family has to say:
Candy is great with everyone once she warms up to them. She likes to lay around most of the time, but would prefer to lay on your lap or snuggle up with you for a nap. She's good with not having accidents in the house as long as she is brought outside often enough. She loves kids and will climb right up in their lap for attention. She is also great with other dogs once she warms up to them. At first she acts nervous around everyone once she realizes she is safe she is fine. All around snuggle bug. She doesn't bark at all. Prefers to be with you in your bed at night but if you do not allow her she will just go find somewhere else to sleep without an issue. She really is a wonderful girl.

JANEL(Hunni)-Adopted Mar 27, 2015
Female, Pitbull, 2 yrs, 55 lbs
What the foster family has to say:
Hunni is a pretty blank slate, everything is new to her, dishwasher noises, household banging and clanging but she is very curious about things and just checks things out, not really afraid, not sure she has ever been in a house.
We got her into a bigger wire crate so she can now see what's going on better and is more willing to spend time in there. Relaxed and zoomies in the back yard.
She is still decompressing, sleeping and eating as much as we can give her, she needs some groceries on her. She sits, learning wait, takes correction very well, not sure if she is house broke, but doesn't pee in the house. She is having trouble going through doors, both in and out, Cora our dog is helping. She is also scared of stairs, up or down, Cora is again a big help. We go out for walks daily, no stamina, makes it about one block and then back again, LOL. Pretty good on the leash, appears that she may have a high prey drive, bikes, people jogging and squirrels triggered her. To be fair, I don't think she has seen much of this outside world.
We are going cautiously with our cat, Tigg who is a bit of a shit (he is!) seems okay with Hunni but neither have had too much contact yet.
No worries here, we are enjoying the challenge :).
Update Feb 19/15
Hunni has really blossomed. A hundred firsts for this bouncy girl her first week, she is like a 55 pound puppy. She is sweet, smart and eager to please. Easily redirects and listens well. Nothing is for free in her foster household so she has learned sit, wait, leave it, wait for your meal/toy/etc, look at me and NIT (which means NO). We are working on down, stay and four on the floor. Dreamy on the leash except for the squirrels, has to work on her high prey drive. She worked hard with her cat Tigg and has learned to look away, ignore and leave it. Hunni is a super curious brave young lady who has finally mastered the stairs and only has had one accident so far and has three times gone to the door. In between the school work she is learning to play with toys/balls, relax and decompress enough to accept her crate and play/socialize with her foster sister Cora. She is food motivated which is great as she needs some groceries and to gain back her muscle.

Janel was interested and social toward the helper dog. When food was given around the helper dog she ignored the treat while other dog ate. Overall she is a very mellow and calm girl. Great with other dogs. She is good on leash, slight pulling but corrects easily. She listens well, takes treats and food nicely. She is a very nice dog, would make a really good family dog.

LILY-Adopted Mar 27, 2015
Female, Bichon Frise, 6 yrs, 20 lbs
Lily is a very affectionate dog. She is definitely a lap dog and loves people. She can be very energetic. She is completely house trained, and loves going for walks whenever she's given the opportunity. Lily is very good with being left alone. She doesn't whine and bark and is very well behaved when on her own. She will however tend to whine if separated from people when in the same home.
Lily is an exuberant little girl and boy does she LOVE new people!! She is a very mouthy dog both physically and vocally. She will constantly grab you hand for more attention and will have an entire conversation with you. She is great with every dog she has met even at the dog park and tends to prefer new dogs and people to her owners.
Lily either needs a cat that will play with her or a “stand your ground” cat. I think a cat that runs will be chased every time but out of play. She wants to play with all furry creatures which of course is not what most cats want. She prefers to only be with humans over 8 years of age she is very wary of anyone younger. She sleeps in bed with her people and has never been kenneled. She is spayed, microchipped, tattooed, fully vaccinated and comes with accessories.

SNOW WHITE-Adopted Mar 26, 2015
Female, 2 yrs, Boxer X, 67 lbs
What the foster family has to say:
Since the moment she has walked through our doors, she has been so comfortable. She initially just met us the night we picked her up. There was lots of cuddles on the couch, and belly rubs.
She went into her crate for "bedtime" and we didn't hear a peep.
Upon meeting the kids, they were greeted with pittie wiggles, wagging tail, and big kisses. She adores the kids, and is always watching them, and if the toddler cries she runs right over to see him to check if he is okay.
We gave her a bath, and she loved it, cooperating the whole time.
She is extremely gentle with taking treats, just licks the treat up off your hand…no food aggression. I have put my hand in the bowl while she is eating and she will just continue eating around my hand.
She also goes to the door when she needs to go outside. But isn't vocal, so you need to watch her cues. She knows her boundaries and we have not allowed her upstairs by herself and she respects that. She knows it is off limits and stays downstairs.
She absolutely thrives off of human companionship, and if you are not sitting down with her, she tends to follow you around. She is an amazing dog. She also knows her basic commands, and is extremely eager to learn, highly food motivated, really willing to work for her treats.
They say you can tell a rescued dog is so grateful to be saved and this girl is no exception. She is the sweetest dog. Anyone would be really lucky to have her.

Dog watches other dog and although curious, does not become assertive. Notes: Both dogs took food simultaneously
Overall Behavior
Dog is friendly, easy to handle, nice dog. Dog is engaging with handler and enjoys human’s company.
Overall Assessment Notes: Snow White really seeks to engage humans. Enjoys the companionship. Here we have observed that she is dog selective and has a rough and rowdy style of play.
ARTHUR-Adopted Mar 22, 2015
Male, Chi X, 6 yrs, 9 lbs
What his foster family has to say:
Arthur a loving and affectionate boy that is pleasure to have around. Everyone who has met him loves him and he will in turn love them back. He is a quick learner and is eager to please. He is such a smart boy and he has the potential to learn so much more than the sit, stay, shake a paw, and lie down, that he understands now. He is crate and house trained, and walks great while on harness. He is quite the talker (speaks, not usually barking) especially when he wants something from you; attention, inside/outside, time for his walk or supper. He loves to bring you a shoe or mitten, or steal other articles of clothing if he wants your attention. Sometimes he can be a little standoffish when someone new or someone he does not recognize approaches him. It takes him only 30 seconds to accept your affection, and then is your best friend. He will try to learn anything for a treat, and he loves his food. He is very sociable and does enjoy having another dog, his size or larger, around.
If Arthur could talk this would be his request. I love snuggles, toys, and bones, and am a big people person. Please let me sleep on the couch and in bed with you, or else I will be sad. I also like to be the little adventurer and often crawls underneath the covers in bed to hibernate. Once I get to know other dogs, we become best buddies, but when it comes to strange dogs and cats I get a little hyper and barky. I would do best in any kind of home really, as long as you love me for who I am, take me for walks and let me play, and realize that even though I am six years old I have more spunk and energy than a 2 year old and am still learning. Please call my foster mom and visit me today! Make sure to bring me a treat :)
What his foster mom in LA had to say:
Arthur is a 6 yr old that acts like he is 2. Very playful.
He gets along with all dogs big and small. He is good with the cats. Arthur loves people of all ages. He rarely barks. He is crate trained by himself or with other dogs. He does need some more work with the potty training. Arthur loves car rides and can walk forever on the leash.
He loves to go on his hind legs and dance. Such a cutie. He does not get into the trash. He will dance for you when he wants wet food or a chewy. I think Arthur would be great in any home

SPINNER-Adopted Mar 21, 2015
Male, 1.5 yrs, Terrier X, 17 lbs,
What his foster mom has to say:
Spinner is such an energetic little cuddle bug! He's good with older kids and I imagine he would be with other dogs as well if given the chance. Spinner will tolerate small kids with an adult present, but not when he is eating his food. Spinner is food motivated to go in his kennel, and once in there is quiet and well behaved. He will need some work on his basic commands, something we'll get started on right away here. I have no doubt this little guy will make a wonderful addition to any home.
So Spinner continues to surprise us every day! Turns out he's a cat man ;) He doesn't give my cat Isaac any trouble! And as energetic as Spinner can be, he can also be as lazy :) One of his favorite things to do is curl up on my husband’s tummy and get lots of cuddles! He is taking daily walks and is lovely on his leash, thanks to his new puppy sized harness! Spinner does not cue to go out to do his business yet, but as long as he's given lots of opportunity, he'll have an accident free day! This little guy will dance for a treat and do a twirl! Spinner wants and deserves his forever home - will it be you :)

JANELLE-Adopted Mar 21, 2015
Female, 7-8 yrs, Cockapoo, 19 lbs
What the foster family has to say:
Janelle (Wiggle Butt/Roo) has settled into our home after only a few days. She has the most soulful brown eyes and smiley face ever! She loves everyone and eagerly dashes to greet people with enthusiastic butt wiggling (hence the nick-name) when we go out for walks. She has great energy and is very eager to learn, easy to correct when she behaves inappropriately, does not bark, is independent but loves attention. She is a great, mellow companion that would love any kind of family for her forever home, however she has a tendency to be jealous so very young children (toddlers) may not be the best fit. As far as other animals in the home, the right cat (one who won't run) will be fine and other dogs can work but she's an alpha female so there may be growling.
She does not shed but will require regular grooming to keep her nice soft fur in tip top condition. If you are looking for a low maintenance, friendly, cuddly addition to your family, she is the dog for you!

JOHNNY-Adopted Mar 20, 2015
Male, 8 months, Chiweenie, 15 lbs
What the foster family has to say:
Johnny is a very personable little fellow. He will follow you everywhere. He is always happy. He gets along well with other dogs. Does bark at initial meetings but warms up quickly. He can be a little standoffish when meeting new people but will warm up fast. He is great with kids (ages 7 and 8). He loves to watch everything that is going on in the house. Goes to the bathroom outside when the times and signs are figured out. Johnny has a brother named Jimmy. The two of them are fairly attached to each other and they love to cuddle and play together. Would be nice to see them go together as they are great buddies. Even though they do love each other they will follow around the person they bond with. They just love to be with their human company. They are kennel trained and sleep together. They stay in there all night. (I do tuck them in because they are so darn cute). They would also sleep on a bed of they were allowed as they are fantastic cuddlers. Take one or even better take both. They are fun little guys with lots of love to give.

JIMMY-Adopted Mar 20, 2015
Male, 8 months, Chiweenie, 13 lbs
What the foster family has to say:
Jimmy is a sweet guy that loves to cuddle. He is fantastic with kids (ages 7 and 8) and is good with other dogs. My daughter will carry him around like a baby. Can be slightly bossy or barking at initial meeting. Slightly standoffish when he first meets people but warms up fast. For going to the bathroom outside he is pretty good once the times and signs are understood. Jimmy is very attached to his brother Johnny and they love to cuddle and play together. They would also sleep on a bed of they were allowed as they are fantastic cuddlers. Jimmy does have cherry eye and will be having surgery to correct it. Don't let that stop you from loving this little guy. He is worth it.

MINNIE-Adopted Mar 18, 2015
Female, 8 months, Rat Terrier x, 12 lbs
What the foster family has to say:
Minnie is a fantastic and loving little girl! She's playful and keeps to herself when playing with toys. She loves to chew on her toys but is good at not chewing on things she isn't supposed to chew on. She is learning very quickly and is starting to respond well to commands. She sleeps in her kennel most nights and cries for only a minute or two before stretching out in her bed to sleep. She is very affectionate and loves to curl up in a lap for a nice little nap. Overall she's a very sweet dog, a great cuddle buddy, a lovely playmate for the other dogs in our house, and I'm confident she will thrive in her forever home.
Minnie has come a long way in her training and I am happy to report she is 99% housebroken now. She prefers the company of females as she can be quite nervous around men. I suspect she was abused previously as she can get quite frightened with fast jerky movements. She has growled at our son on two occasions when he was practicing his karate moves and barked at my husband when he was play wrestling with our son. I believe this will pass when she continues her training and gets familiar with her forever family but I would not suggest her for a home with young children. She's great with older children and females of any age. She's also getting along well with my other male dog and they play all day. Still a bit food and toy territorial but getting better.
She's a great dog and we home she finds and awesome forever family.

SUGAR-Adopted Mar 15, 2015
Female, 8 yrs, Shetland Sheep Dog/Terrier X, 17 lbs
What her foster family has to say:
Sugar is a sweet, gentle loving little girl that holds true to her name. Her favorite places are on the back of the couch or on the pillows on bed. She absolutely loves chin scratches and will do silly things to get them. Sugar loves to go outside and will let you know she needs to go. She’s amazing on leash and loves to go for walks she's just a well rounded, well behaved girl. Now all she needs is her perfect forever home. Could that be you?
What the foster in LA has to say:
Sugar is very sweet and mellow. She just wants to be with you whether watching tv (on the sofa with you), on the computer (at your feet) or in bed at night. She is especially good at night and will generally sleep through until you are ready to get up.
She loves to go for walks and gets very excited when her leash comes out. She also is very good in the car. She is housebroken. I took her out after eating, after napping and she will pace at the door if she needs to go out any other times. Just be aware of what she is trying to tell you. She just wants to please and will do whatever you ask of her as soon as she understands. She sits for treats and takes them very gently.
Her one bad habit that needs to be addressed is when you return from being gone for a while, she jumps up on you and gives a little “happiness” nip to let you know she’s glad you are home. It isn’t a bite by any means. She just gets so excited.
It is ok to leave her loose in the house when you are out, she does not chew or disturb anything.
I hope she finds a good home with someone who will love her as much as I do.

FRANKIE-Adopted Mar 14, 2015
Female, 3.5 yrs, Chi x, 14 lbs
What the Foster family has to say:
She's really coming around and acting like a puppy. We had a good play this morning. She's back on track with food and water and regular poops and pees. She's a very happy little girl. She's very timid around other people. Completely stops when someone passes us on the street when we are walking but I'm sure after a few more walks she'll get used to other people. I took her over to my friends place yesterday and she was fine with them after about 30 minutes. So she just needs a little more socializing to be comfortable around others. I will introduce her to other dogs next weekend to see how she reacts but she's very curious about the other dogs she's seen so far.
All in all she's adjusting well. Still not sure about the snow, she doesn't like the way it feels on her toes. She's fully house trained and has had no accidents. She also knows sit and stay. She loves treats (obviously) and she has started to play with her toys!

MARGO-ADOPTED MAR 8, 2015
Female, Pitbull x, 1 yr, 48 lbs
What her foster family has to say:
Margo (black collar)-Margo is very refined and almost more mature in her stature than Bianca. Margo loves to lay beside you and be quiet. She melts into your arms for love and redirects really well. She is the quieter of the 2.
Following is a B.A.R.C (Behavior Assessment and Reactivity Checklist) assessment done by the shelter staff. This checklist was created by Robert Cabral to fairly assess shelter dogs. You can visit his website at www.boundangels.org
What the shelter has to say:
Margo approaches the kennel in a friendly manner. She gives up her toys easily. She did not have much interest in them. When gently touched she softened and engaged the tester. When offered a treat she was indifferent or friendly. Margo easily redirects to handler and is compliant. When tester showed dominance by pushing down on her shoulders she remained neutral. Margo was introduced to another dog and she was interested and social with a soft body. The tester offered the helper dog a treat and Margo did not interfere when other dog was eating. Overall she is relaxed and friendly but is starting to show signs of kennel stress.
Additional notes: She is in with 5 different dogs big and small. Did very well. Likes to jump on you, needs some teaching of manners. Not interested in a dog barking at fence line. Loves to play. A bit apprehensive with cats. Tail still wagging and not barking or growling. Did well with the huge tortoise. Great with all people. No reaction to walking past dog kennels or dogs walking in the parking lot. Needs good first time introduction with cats. No reaction to rabbits, just stared at them.

ACHILLES-ADOPTED MAR 6, 2015
Male, Pitbull X, 2.5 yrs old
What the Foster has to say about Achilles:
Achilles is a big sweet boy! He LOVES to play and gets along with our big old lab and our two small dogs.
He greets everyone with his tail wagging. We don't have young children but, I’m going to say he would have no issues as long as they were a bit older as he is still very young at heart and doesn't know how big he is.
Achilles has no aggression issues with food, treats or toys and more than willing to wait his turn or give it up if someone else doesn't want to share a.k.a. old lab.
He loves car rides and settles right down, seldom barks except at his own reflection at night (he's a big chicken, he won't even go off the deck at night). Achilles knows sit, stay, down and fetch. I believe he is house trained, he doesn't give a cue to go out but holds it till he is out, so if you watch him you will have no issues. He does however give a cue when he wants back in. He will jump up against a door or window (but only if he sees you and you don't let him in NOW!!)
We haven't taken him to a dog park as he gets VERY excited around new dogs, surroundings and people and his attention span on you is almost nil when over stimulated. I believe in time that will change as he matures. So for now we go for quiet walks on the acreage. He does pull on his leash hard in the beginning and near the end he gets better.
Achilles is crate trained and goes in quietly at night for bedtime. I can see Achilles will be a VERY LOYAL and LOVING companion as when he is in quite surroundings he is always watching and following you from room to room, sometimes so close he steps on the back of your slippers!
Don't let the pit bull breed scare you as you haven't met Achilles who has a very pure soul and wants to please and share all his love.
Following is a B.A.R.C (Behavior Assessment and Reactivity Checklist) assessment done by the shelter staff. This checklist was created by Robert Cabral to fairly assess shelter dogs. You can visit his website at www.boundangels.org
What the shelter has to say:
Achilles is a happy distracted dog. A very happy dog, but his energy can be intense. Because he is easily stimulated it may cause other dogs to react. No food or toy aggressions, or possession. Will melt when shown dominance by the handler. Gives up his toys easily and has a short attention span when playing. When introduced to another dog he was interested with high energy. When food was introduced with helper dog around he was more interested in play with another dog over the treat offered. He was slow to engage with tester and was distracted. When given a correction he offered no resistance and was easy to handle.

PRINCE-ADOPTED MAR 6, 2015
Male, 3 yrs, Lhasa Apso/Terrier mix, 18 lbs
What his foster family has to say:
Prince is a loving dog that becomes attached to his caregiver very quickly. He will follow you around wherever you may go. If you are sitting on the couch he is right beside you with his head in your lap. Prince loves his people and if you happen to step out of the house you will find him at the door waiting for you. I found that when I stepped out the door he waited at the door whining. Because of this the best fit for Prince is a person who is home more than they are gone. Prince is smart and knows how to sit, lay down, shake and takes direction pretty well. Prince is crate trained and spends his time when I am away at work in his kennel. He may whine when you first leave him in the kennel but eventually quiets down. Once he feels secure in his new home he should be able to be left out when you are gone. He is happy when I get home and the first thing we do is head out for a pee. We are currently working with him on doing his poo outside. We have had accidents in the house but I find if I walk him soon after he eats he does his poo on the walk. He needs someone who will continue to go for a walk or take him outside after he eats.
Prince is a great companion and will settle into most homes well. He doesn't chew on anything he shouldn't and plays with his toys. Prince does growl at our other little dog and hasn't reached the point where they can play together yet. But I am sure that once he feels secure of his owners love he will be more open to sharing you with another dog. Prince sleeps on our bed at night and doesn't get down off the bed until you wake in the morning. In fact you will probably have to wake him up as he loves to sleep in. He loves his belly rubbed first thing and will love you even more for it. Prince doesn't seem to like stairs. He does fine on our 2 steps into the living room but refuses to go down or up the 12 steps to the basement.
Overall Prince is an affectionate dog who needs to feel loved and secure in his home. He needs an owner to bond with who will be there for him. He is a good companion dog and will show you much love and affection.
What his LA foster had to say:
Prince loves to play with toys and will bring a ball, chewy, or toy back to you. He knows to sit and to shake. He gets along with cats and dogs of all sizes. He loves kids of all ages. The dog park is a place he loves to go. A people lover. It does take a little time for him to get use to you. He does not get into the trash and does not chew things up. Does not dig. He is potty trained, only had a couple of accidents in the beginning. Prince is very content following you around and sitting with you.
Prince is crate trained at night in a plastic crate only and in the master room. When he is crated in another room, even by other dogs that are crated, he barks and cries. He needs work on feeling comfortable in a metal crate (which he cries or barks in). When it is time for sleep you just open the crate door and tell him that it is time for bed. Then cover the crate. He can go from 10 pm -8 am if needed. If you choose to have him sleep in bed with you he sleeps all night without jumping off the bed.
Prince was an owner surrender because they were moving into an apartment and could not take him. He has had some separation anxiety. Prince will bark if he does not see someone in physical view. He needs time to adjust. Ideally he needs to be with a foster or adopter were someone is always home or where Prince can go with them everywhere they go. He is great in the stores walking and in a shopping cart. He is good in the car. The windshield wipers do scare him though. Prince is very smart and can be a love bug once he is use to you.

MIMI-ADOPTED MARCH 6, 2015
Female, 8 months, Rat Terrier x, 12 lbs
What the foster family has to say:
Mimi is an all around Puppy. She is the sweetest most playful little girl ever. Loves to play with you and loves her snuggles (she will allow you to hold her in your arms like a newborn baby). She really enjoys laying around in dog beds. She doesn't nibble on people at all which is nice but does enjoy her chew toys. Her favorite is smaller boxes (LOVES BOXES). I am working on house training her, she is doing well. She is a fast learner. As long as she is brought outside often enough she won't have accidents. She is nervous around large dogs and will bark at them at first until she warms up. She is slightly territorial over anything she is playing with or the dog bed she is laying on, but also is very playful with other dogs.

ROCKO-ADOPTED MAR 5, 2015
Male, 2 yrs, Beagle/Chihuahua mix, 17 lbs
What the LA foster mom has to say:
Rocko is a chi/beagle mix and a clown who likes to follow you around (really, Shadow is a better name). He will do headstands to get a belly rub, and like a typical beagle loves to run and follow his nose. He needs a large yard or someone to take him to the dog park every day. He LOVES car rides and going to the dog park. He can be a bit of an escape artist and will find holes under fences. He is an absolute love who wants to hang out on your lap, follow you around and get crazy excited to be at the dog park. So sweet! He is scared of the cats, even the tiny baby kittens, but great with other dogs of all sizes. He is house trained. He made a couple messes inside but went right in front of the door, so I blame me instead of him. He could use some training and is starting to respond very well to treats. He will follow his treat into the crate, but will go the other direction when you tell him it’s time to kennel. He will make an awesome companion for someone!

BIANCA-Adopted Mar 5, 2015
Female, Pitbull x, 1 yr, 47 lbs.
Bianca is so very sweet. She is less than a year and extremely puppy like in nature.
Bianca is a spitfire. Always on the go. Gallops like a horse, Bays like a cow. She will talk to you and is pretty vocal when she wants something. She redirects well and quiets when asked. Bianca goes into the crate when asked and settles right down.
She is an amazing girl who need someone that will give her the guidance and training she needs. She will be an amazing addition to an active family.
Following is a B.A.R.C (Behavior Assessment and Reactivity Checklist) assessment done by the shelter staff. This checklist was created by Robert Cabral to fairly assess shelter dogs. You can visit his website at www.boundangels.org
What the shelter has to say:
Bianca approaches the kennel in a friendly manner. She gives up her toys easily. She did not have much interest in them. When gently touched she softened and engaged the tester. When offered a treat she was indifferent or friendly. Bianca easily redirects to handler and is compliant. When tester showed dominance by pushing down on her shoulders she remained neutral. Bianca was introduced to another dog and she was interested and social. The tester offered the helper dog a treat and Bianca ignored the treat while the helper dog was eating.

Following is a B.A.R.C (Behavior Assessment and Reactivity Checklist) assessment done by the shelter staff. This checklist was created by Robert Cabral to fairly assess shelter dogs. You can visit his website at www.boundangels.org
What the shelter has to say:
When approaching the kennel she vocalizes frustration and jumps onto her hind legs pushing the kennel door. When touched will soften immediately. Leans into assessor or more contact. Enjoys touch. Is okay with touch anywhere on the body. Dog will acknowledge the presence of a toy but then shows no further interest. Does not engage with the toy. Body remains soft when food is present. Friendly and indifferent to food engagement. Very polite. With handling dog melts under pressure after a short moment of confusion. When another dog was introduced continued with soft body posture and remained calm and social. Does not become overstimulated. When the treat was present the dog went to the treat first. Then, calmly investigated the other dog. Curious and friendly. Overall the dog is very easy to handle and very people oriented. Enjoys touch and interaction.

TIMBIT-Adopted Mar 4, 2015
Male, 3 yrs, Terrier/Poodle, 16 lbs
What the foster family has to say:
Timbit is a very shy and cautious little man. For almost a week that I had him, he wouldn't let neither me or my roommate cuddle/play with him (probably due to lack of socialization and/or bad experience with previous owners). Despite shyness and being afraid of accepting love, he is very curious and explores every little corner of the apartment when thinks that we are not looking. He tends to lean away when you try to reach him, but sometimes will let you pet him while staying still and not making eye contact. He is also an attention grabber and tends to bark/howl if the doors are closed, yet will keep his distance once you let him in. He wasn't willing to go for a walk yet, but we house trained him and sometimes he likes going out to the balcony to get some fresh air (not when there is snow there though). Not sure how he behaves around other animals and kids, but he gets somewhat intimidated when there are too many people around him. He surely got more comfortable compared to his first day, but he still needs more time to feel completely safe. He is worth the effort to become a great pet.

JAX-Adopted Mar 2, 2015
Male, Pitbull x, 3 yrs, 51 lbs
What the foster has to say:
He's such an amazing little beam of light. Easily trainable, only needs small corrections with jumping, walking properly on leash, sitting, laying down & staying. He will need someone who is patient & loves cuddles but also knows when to be the pack leader & show calm assertion when he is stubborn. He is a bit intense at the dog park so needs a reminder to be polite, but otherwise great with other pooches. Loves to play fetch & tug. He's been on a pretty good schedule of 2, 30 min walks a day as well as being fed every 2-3 hours to put weight in him as he was extremely underweight when I got him. He loves to run & is eager to learn and has a very sweet disposition. He is great with kids & I've been trying to socialize him in as many situations as possible. Great in vehicles & waits patiently for food. He has space issues, likes to crowd you for attention, so also something to work on. He is also a comedian, such a joy to be around. Easily motivated by food & kennel trained.
He bonded very quickly too me. Loves to be beside me at all times & of course to cuddle. He's been able to come to work with me 3 days out of the week & is never left alone for more than 3 hours. Pees & poos on command & releases his toys with ease. Easily distracted when other people/toys are around as he is still a pup so I keep him in leash in those situations to easily correct him. I would keep him but the timing isn't right for me right now so it's very important to me that he goes to a very stable loving household.

What the shelter has to say:
Very friendly and playful when approaching the kennel. When playing with a toy, will hand it over easily when asked. Softens when petting. Indifferent and friendly with food. Easily redirects when corrected by the handler. Remains neutral when handler shows dominance. When introduced to another dog remains playful and wants to engage in play, No food aggression issues, or with treats. The shelter staff says: Jax is a good boy and likes to play with Johnnie. Good on a leash. Needs some basic commands training. Listens well. Kennel card showed aggression towards food, but it should be noted they are fed very little food at the shelter and are very hungry.

DUCHESS-Adopted Mar 1, 2015
Female, 4 yrs, Boxer mix, 50 lbs
What the foster family has to say:
Wow has she ever started to come around. She was definitely showing signs of kennel stress when we got her but she has settled right down and fitting in like a dream. This girl has definitely had some training. She walks like a dream on a leash and does various tricks. I can take her out to the back 1/4 section and let her and my family dog run their little hearts out and she never goes far. She never lets me out of her sight and she's always watching over her shoulder for me. This daily walk has done wonders for her and she's so much calmer now. She’s listening better and is very treat motivated. She's very gentle with the boys and is always by their side soaking up the scratches. She's even less obsessed about harassing the cat. She has never been aggressive with him but she definitely has fun at his expense. She's very social and so good with other dogs. She is house trained and we've had no accidents. Dutchess rides well in the car and loves to go on car rides. She is going to make some lucky family very happy. What a great girl!!

When touched she softens with petting and engages the tester. Duchess was offered a treat and she looked up as tester with a confused look. She easily redirects to handler when corrected. When tester pushed down on dogs shoulders Duchess melted under slight pressure. Duchess was introduced to a helper dog and approached in a neutral or playful manner. When both dogs were offered a treat Duchess did not interfere when other dog was eating. At the start of the assessment she started out with signs of kennel stress. By the end she was relaxed, friendly and easy to handle. She is kenneled with another dog. She is playful with dogs. Needs decompression to focus. She is kennel stressed. When focused she listens and pays attention to command. She sits on command, good on leash and no reaction to dogs in the kennels.

Dutchess rides well in the car and loves to go on car rides. She is going to make some lucky family very happy. What a great girl!!
Following is a B.A.R.C (Behavior Assessment and Reactivity Checklist) assessment done by the shelter staff. This checklist was created by Robert Cabral to fairly assess shelter dogs. You can visit his website at www.boundangels.org
What the shelter had to say:
Duchess approaches the kennel in a friendly, playful and excitable manner. When given a toy and then trying to take it away she gives it up easily with an overall playful attitude.
BEA-Adopted Mar 1, 2015
Female, Pitbull x, 6 yrs, 40 lbs
What the foster family has to say:
She's turning into such a great dog, she loves her snuggles and is incredibly loyal! She would follow you to the moon and back! She is fully house trained, knows her basic commands, does well on our long walks out in the country. She loves being off leash with my dog in our big field. She never runs away and is never farther then a whistle away. She loves playing gently with other dogs, is a non barker unless someone new comes to the door, then she informs them briefly that she's there and would like a pet please..Lol. She greets new people with a wagging tail and a big doggy smile, does well with children, and has made vast improvements on getting along with cats. She no longer growls or barks at cats, and chases them a lot less! It is my belief that with a lil time and effort she could co-exist with cats peacefully, she's only been here for a few weeks and has learned so much! Don't let the premature grey hair on her face fool you, she's still a puppy at heart! And is only 6 years young! Still a lot of life and love! Please won't someone give this girl a forever home? She's a very small pittbull/boxer cross.
What her LA foster has to say:
Bea is great with all people. When walked through the shelter she did well walking past the other dogs and through the cattery. No bad reactions. She also did well at the vet yesterday. She has been fostered with bigger dogs and gets along well.

ADMIRAL-Adopted Feb 27/2015
Male, Pitbull X, 2.5 yrs, 54 lbs
What his foster family has to say:
Admiral is a super sweet boy. He would be content to curl up beside you on the couch or bed and just relax. He isn't very good in the kennel, but will go in without any trouble. He is currently confused about getting all this off leash time in the home and the yard. The first 24 hours we had a slip lead on him to help keep his mind still. Without the leash he would wander the house constantly. He is getting better without the lead around his neck now, as he learns from his foster brother that it is cool to just chill out by the couch. He came only really knowing sit. We have been working to increase his responsiveness to sit, and have introduced down. He also seemed very eager to give a paw and to crawl a little. We introduced him to bully sticks the other night and it only took him a few minutes to figure out that it was something for him to chew his way through rather than play with like a cat. On walks he is very easy going and gentle. If he gets to the end of the leash he will slow down and a little bit of pressure will bring him back beside you. We walked over a very slick and icy part of the sidewalk and he was very considerate of where I was and not to pull me down. He does well with other dogs as he is an easygoing boy. He is no to fond to chase and play outside. We believe he would do well in a home with children, a little older preferably. He is very touchy about his tail and haunches being touched. He absolutely loves attention and will be your shadow for life if you let him. Come meet this sweetie and he will melt your heart!
What a difference a home can make. He was not tolerating the shelter and you can clearly see that in his BARC assessment.
Following is a B.A.R.C (Behavior Assessment and Reactivity Checklist) assessment done by the shelter staff. This checklist was created by Robert Cabral to fairly assess shelter dogs. You can visit his website at www.boundangels.org

TIMMY-Adopted Feb 27, 2015
Male, 7 months, Terrier X, 15 lbs
What the foster family has to say:
Timmy is a really lovely boy! He is really good with my kids, even my toddler in his face doesn't bother him. He is very playful and energetic, likes to go for walks if it's warm up, but is not a fan of snow. He has had a few accidents in the house but I'd say he's mostly potty trained and getting better. He is crate trained and very easy to get into crate and quiet once he's there. He likes to sleep in his crate at night and goes there when he needs a break. He's not food dominant, he lets my 1 yr old feed him and is very gentle. He didn't react to my cat at all, they just stared at each other and then moved on. Timmy likes to cuddle and is very affectionate. He would make a great family pet.

CAMILLA-Adopted Feb 26, 2015
Female, 5 yrs, Lhasa Apso, 9 lbs
Camilla was brought in as a stray. She was very matted and extremely scared. She needs tons of TLC. Her ideal home would be someone who is home a lot of the day, very calm house and you must have a gentle calm spirit. You need to go slow and pet her before trying to pick her up. She has been in a foster home here for only one day and is hiding when she can. When this little girl is shown love, kindness and guidance she will flourish.
What the foster family has to say:
I am writing to let you know that Camilla is doing great. She eats, rests and sleeps okay. She is a calm dog, but she is exploring my place and seems relaxed at times. She doesn't stay in a crate. I took her out for a walk in the morning, and she stayed close to me.

Male, 7 yrs, Jack Russel Cross, 33 lbs
What the foster has to say:
Hi, my name is Jakie (aka Triumph) and I'm looking for a best friend! I am loyal and loving, and I especially love snuggling on the couch. I'm great with kids and other dogs, but I especially want a human buddy to hang with. I am sweet and housetrained and just the best companion you could ever want! Don't let my age fool you, I have lots of years left and I'm active and healthy. Meet me once and you'll fall in love! Can't wait to see you! I can hardly wait for my forever home!

When offered a treat he was friendly but also was pushy for the treat and follows with focus. Triumph needed a second correction then redirected to handler. We needed to captivate his attention then he is good. When introduced to another dog he was social and playful. He did not interfere with helper dog when treat was offered to other dog. Overall he is friendly. He is showing signs of kennel stress by spinning and pacing. He needs time to run and play before he can focus. He is in with 4 little dogs and likes to be the boss. He is very active but a good boy.

KENWAY-ADOPTED FEB 19/15
Male, Pitbull x, 1.5 yrs, 52 lbs
What the foster family has to say:
He's been around my Pitbull the last few days and has been having the time of his life. He is not a fan of the kennel, but will go in after a bit of guidance. Kenway loves to cuddle and would much rather curl up on top of you and invade your space haha. We go for walks daily and he has only had one incident inside the house. He is also really good at showing you when he has to go outside, he will just run to the door. We haven't been around kids at all, so I'm not too sure how he would handle it, but we have been around dogs big and small, Pitbull to tea cup Maltese, and he has no issue! Kenway is a very very calm and gentle boy with very sweet eyes and an adorable face! He listens when his name is called and is very easy to handle when walking. Kenway is a perfect little pooch. He sits when you tell him to and he ALMOST has "paw" mastered. He's gaining weight at a great rate, and is not as boney anymore. He is still working on personal boundaries. For example, if your face and his are at the same level he is going to lick you silly (even if your mouth is open haha). But we are working on it :) Kenway is definitely a good boy!
Following is a B.A.R.C (Behavior Assessment and Reactivity Checklist) assessment done by the shelter staff. This checklist was created by Robert Cabral to fairly assess shelter dogs. You can visit his website at www.boundangels.org
What the shelter has to say:
When approaching kennel becomes excitable. Enjoys play and keep away. Will give up toy easily. Accepts touch, but does not further seek it out when taken away. Indifferent at feeding times. Dog follows treat with focus. When redirected will easily correct. Remains neutral with domination from handler. With other dogs is neutral and then engages in the play bow. Will not interfere with other dog eating. Will take treats at the same time from the ground. Overall very relaxed and playful. He is energetic and has some jumping tendencies. He is somewhat sensitive around the hind quarters. This was observed during the dominance and touch test. He seems to be assertive when taking treats, but not aggressive. He is friendly with other dogs and wants to play. He is suitable for a home prepared for high energy.

DAISY-Adopted Feb 16/15
Female, 3 yrs, Pit bull X, 65 lbs
Following is a B.A.R.C (Behavior Assessment and Reactivity Checklist) assessment done by the shelter staff. This checklist was created by Robert Cabral to fairly assess shelter dogs. You can visit his website at www.boundangels.org
What the shelter has to say:
Daisy approaches the kennel in a friendly and soft manner. When offered a toy to play with she didn’t care to play. When the assessor gently touched her head a body she softened with petting. When offered a treat she was friendly. Daisy was given a correction when other distractions were around and easily redirected to handler. When dominance was shown by handler Daisy melted under slight pressure. When introduced to another dog she was interested, social, soft body and remained neutral. Food was introduced to both helper dog and Daisy and Daisy did not interfere when other dog was eating. Overall Daisy is a very friendly and playful. She sits without treats. She gets along well with other dogs. Doesn’t seem to care about the cats. She needs out of the shelter as she is starting to show signs of kennel stress (spinning and pacing).

GIGI-Adopted Feb 13/15
Female, Pitbull x, 2.5 yrs
What the foster has to say:
Gigi is the MOST cuddly and affectionate pitbull that has come through our doors. She is eager to please and loves to give out kisses. Gigi enjoys toys and bones and she is learning to share and play nicely. On leash she sometimes pulls, but is getting better with a few corrections.
Gigi is very built and can sometimes forget her own strength. She would best suite someone with experience and that can help redirect her focus. Most of all she needs lots of love. She is a great dog who loves her people. There is no mean bone in her body.
Following is a B.A.R.C (Behavior Assessment and Reactivity Checklist) assessment done by the shelter staff. This checklist was created by Robert Cabral to fairly assess shelter dogs. You can visit his website at www.boundangels.org
What the shelter has to say:
Gig is very excitable/playful to person at the kennel. She becomes very vocal and jumps at the front of the kennel when approached. At first touch seemed aloof, then became excited and wanted to jump into my lap. Gigi plays a nice game of tug and gives up quickly for food. She shows friendly food behavior. She gets confused at first with correction then redirection follows along. Melts halfway with dominance and pushes back. Mostly seems confused. When introduced to another dog, stares with focus. In the beginning takes a predatory posture. No vocalizing. After a moment settles into standing without stalking. While other dog present, will not take food. Overly focused on investigating the other dog. Borderline fixated. Although rude behaviour was observed, no aggression was seen. Overall the dog has very high drive. Has polite manners with food and knows to sit for reward. Likely needs structure training and leash work. Will definitely need supervision if around other dogs.

What the foster home has to say:
Eddie has been an absolute joy to have in the house. Eddie is extremely playful, loves his walks and is always willing to play fetch. JACK-Adopted Feb 2, 2015
Male, 2 yrs, Terrier X
What the foster family has to say:
Jack is a high energy lad. If you are looking for a dog who can hike, run, jump and frolic, but at the end of the day wants to curl up on your lap, then Jack is the dog for you! He is able to leap over 2 foot gates in a single bound, his vertical is impressive at 5 feet. He truly is a 'superdog'. Jack is highly food motivated as well.
He does not tolerate confinement of any kind--crate or a room. He needs to be with his family and will follow you faithfully. He loves to snuggle next to you in bed and does not take kindly to being told to "go to his bed". Cats are a curiosity to Jack, like a toy. I don't know if he would hurt a cat, but he will gleefully chase it around the room.
Jack is great on a leash, if anything it is unfamiliar to him. So far no accidents in the house but we take him out regularly.
What my foster mom in LA had to say:
Jack is friendly, happy, active and playful. He loves all people and just wants to please. Please make him a part of your home.

JOHNNY-Adopted Jan 31/15
Male, Pitbull x, 3 yrs, 56 lbs
What the foster home has to say:
Johnny is an absolute sweetheart! All he wants is love and attention from anyone. He'll follow you room to room just to be near you. He's very excited to meet other dogs and is friendly with all sizes. We are unsure how he does with cats however. He plays nicely with the other dogs in the house and by himself as well. Johnny is a quite dog and only barks when someone comes to the door. He goes to his kennel when instructed and has no problem sleeping in there all night. As far we can tell he is housebroken as we have had no accidents in the house. He does hate the snow and is still learning how to adjust to the cold. He also needs some work with walking on a leash and his basic commands but he's picking it up quite quickly! He's definitely a smart boy and is going to make an amazing addition to anyone's family.
Following is a B.A.R.C (Behavior Assessment and Reactivity Checklist) assessment done by the shelter staff. This checklist was created by Robert Cabral to fairly assess shelter dogs. You can visit his website at www.boundangels.org
What the shelter has to say:
When approached at the kennel Johnnie was relaxed and playful. He has a playful attitude with toys. Slight resistance with toy removal. Softens when being pet. Indifferent or friendly with food. Easily redirects with handler when being corrected. Melts when handler places pressure on the back and remains neutral. Neutral and playful towards other dogs. Does not interfere when other dog is eating. Takes treats easily. Shelter staff say he is a favorite among them. He is playful, friendly and loving. He doesn't care about other dogs barking. Good on a leash, Doesn’t know what to do about cats! A Great boy!

What is foster family has to say:
So far he seems pretty low energy. He sleeps a lot and likes to cuddle. Does not like going for walks, prefers the comfy couch instead. He likes the older kids, but does not like to be pestered by toddlers. I suggest a house with a little older kids. He is a great little dog and will make someone very happy.
What his foster mom in LA had to say:
This boy is a snuggle bug. Very much likes petting & lots of attention. He's a pleaser. Likes to play ball and with toys.

GRACIE-Adopted Jan 28, 2015
Female, 2.5 yrs, Shih Tzu x, 17 lbs
What her foster family has to say:
Gracie is a lover, always willing to help out by giving doggie kisses. She is happy to meet new people, dogs and even likes kitties. Gracie has been Cool, comfortable and joyful from the moment she arrived here in Calgary from California. She will happily stay in her crate when needed, but is so calm and trustworthy that you don’t need to place her in that often anyway. She is generally quiet except when expressing how much she is enjoying a scratch behind her ears. Gracie enjoys belly rubs, cuddling, walks. She has recently discovered snow for the first time and loves jumping in it. She is happy sitting on a lap for some petting and also has her own independent streak that means she is happy taking a nap somewhere quiet. Gracie has an under bite that makes her face so easy to fall in love with and will make you smile every time you look at her. Gracie is house trained and has not had any accidents inside. We have two cats, Gracie has made several attempts to sniff noses and be friends but easily gives up on the idea once given the back off signal by the kitties. She has also made no attempt to eat their food. We are working on her basic commands and treats are working well as motivators.

LAKER-Adopted Jan 26, 2015
Male, 1.5 yrs, Pit Bull, 51 lbs
What the foster family has to say:
Meet Laker. He is 100% love bug. He LOVES his walks, he loves our existing pitty, and he loves to lick our two year old. He already walks pretty good on leash with our dog (and beside stroller). He would absolutely excel with some structure and training. He lays his head in your lap and stares at you with his googly eyes - he loves to play, but he's happy just hanging out too. He is a great pup and will do great in a family.

What the shelter has to say:
Laker approaches the kennel in a friendly manner. When given a toy he easily gives it up and really has no interest. When touched he softens with petting. When offered food he was friendly. Laker easily redirects to handler when a correction is given. When introduced to another dog he was uninterested in an aloof way. A treat was offered to the helper dog and Laker had no interest in the treat. Laker does not like loud and obnoxious dogs. He wants to get away. He is very mellow. Not interested in anything except laying around. Perfect lap or couch dog. Always has a smile on his face. Good with dogs and kids. No interest in cats.

MAMMA-Adopted Jan 24, 2015
Female, Pitbull, 2.5 yrs, 55 lbs
Mama is good with people including kids. She does want to love on you and can push a little one over because of her bulk. She is good with big dogs but not small (only tried with a Chi – may just need time to get used to a small dog). She stared at the cat and unknown what her reaction would be with cats. I may say no cats. She is currently with a husky and a cocker spaniel. Good in the car. Good in a crate if needed.
She did growl at the pool man but probably trying to protect. She is a love bug. When the husband was sick Mama sat with him all day.

MUCHIE-Adopted Jan 24, 2015
Male, 3 yr, Terrier mix
What the foster home has to say:
We have come to know and love Muchie (moo-chee) very much in the last few days as well as get to know his "not so shy" personality. He is very good with people and good with dogs. Muchie is learning his name and already perks his ears when you call him. He is a very people oriented dog who loves cuddles and all the attention he can get. He slowly warms up to other dogs as well as learning how to share EVERYTHING! After a few days he gets along very well and even engages in playing. Muchie is submissive and eager to learn as long as treats or food is involved. So far he loves the snow and is super adventurous. Rarely pulls on leash and is easy to correct. Being as he is a terrier he has a very rambunctious energy to him, but if you are watching a movie or relaxing he will cuddle or chew on a bone.
Loves toys and bones as well as his new sweater he was given. Not very vocal unless he is super happy. Great for any family.

KADEN-Adopted Jan 25, 2015
Male, 4 yr, Terrier/ Min Poodle, 9 lbs
What the foster mom has to say:
Kayden is a playful and affectionate pup! He is very snuggly and loves his tummy rubs. He enjoys toys, especially rubber textured ones that squeak. He doesn't appear to have any issues with barking. He seems younger than four, explorative with his mouth but not aggressive in it. Kayden is settling in and learning to be housetrained. He doesn't seem to have a strong bladder so training to hold it longer. He's very gentle in his play and does well with my other small dog. He has met a cat and at first attempted to chase it but then appeared neutral. He walks well on a leash. Starting to respond well to his name. At night he likes to sleep next to you on a pillow on the bed.

AMANDA-Adopted Jan 21, 2015
Female, Pitbull x, 2 yrs, 37 lbs
What the foster home has to say:
Amanda is a beautiful girl! She knows her basic commands and even knows how to fetch, bring it back and drop it at your feet. She gives her toy easily, hoping you give it another throw! Amanda is awesome with my kids and wants so much to please! She has settled in and seems to know she's safe! She pays no attention to my cat until my cat throws a fit at her and runs away - then she'll chase him thinking it's a game! We've had a few accidents in the house but we're working hard on that! She hasn't barked yet, but boy can she sing the blues at night in her kennel :) Overall she's terrific!
Following is a B.A.R.C (Behavior Assessment and Reactivity Checklist) assessment done by the shelter staff. This checklist was created by Robert Cabral to fairly assess shelter dogs. You can visit his website at www.boundangels.org
What the shelter had to say:
Very friendly and playful when approaching the kennel. When playing with a toy, will hand it over easily when asked. Softens when petting. Indifferent and friendly with food. Easily redirects when corrected by the handler. Remains neutral when handler shows dominance. When introduced to another dog, remains playful and wants to engage in play, No food aggression issues, or with treats. Shelter staff said: Amanda is a petite and friendly girl. She is good with small and big dogs. She liked the kids playing with her at the shelter. She sits on command. No reaction to cats. Good on leash. She would make a great family pet.

COOPER-Adopted Jan 22, 2015
Male, 3 yrs, Chihuahua X, 12 lbs
What the foster family has to say:
Cooper is a very sweet lovable little boy. He reminds me of a tender little deer. He is very timid when you first meet him and takes about a day to trust you but once he does all he wants to do is sit on your lap and be loved. He got along wonderfully with myself, my kids and my other dog but had some issues with my husband but has warmed slightly with him now after a few days. When he gets startled or scared he tends to roll on his back or pee himself. We are working on him going to the bathroom outside, it's getting better everyday. He will go into his crate fine but he cries if he knows you're in the house. We have yet to hear him bark. He walks great on his leash and tends to walk right beside you and no pulling. He has not shown any aggression with his food or toys.
I think Cooper's ideal home would be a quiet house with someone whose lifestyle allows them to be with him most of the day. The lucky person who adopts Cooper will know very quickly what the true meaning of puppy love is :)
What the foster mom in LA had to say:
Cooper loves people of all ages. Good with all cats and dogs. He loves attention and is a real love bug. He rarely barks. He likes to sit with you and cuddle under the covers at night. He is crate trained. He is really good on walks and has a healthy appetite. Cooper loves constant attention. He needs to be with an adopter that will let him sleep in bed and take him places. He loves to follow you around.
Anyone who adopts Cooper will have a wonderful loving dog.

When treat was put on the ground and covered with foot he would dig for the treat. When correction was given he redirected immediately and sat. Legend was introduced to another dog. He was interested but not overbearing. When food was introduced with helper dog around he did not interfere when the other dog was eating. He was very polite. Overall Legend is friendly and playful. He will jump on handler. He is mellow until he has a reason to get excited. He will remain neutral with other dogs if other dogs are lower energy.

BLITZEN-ADOPTED JAN 9, 2015
Male, 10 weeks old, Pit Bull/Rottweiler
What my foster family has to say:
Blitzen and Comet are so full of love and both loves to snuggle. Comet tends to play with my cat more than his brother. Both there pad training is going well, we don’t have very many accidents. We have been kenneling both of them at night. They tend to still whine a little bit but only for a few minutes and then they sleep through the night. We have got the chewing to a minimum. It is getting better, they have started to learn which toys are theirs and which are not. They are smart little puppies.
DEMI-ADOPTED JAN 8, 2015
Female, 2 yr, Jack Russell Cross, 11 lbs
What the foster family has to say:
Walks with slack leash & immediately corrects herself if it goes taught! Such a great little girl. Playful, snuggley, friendly -- we've nick named her Wiggles cuz she has a wiggly butt when happy. She gets along well with doggies and there are lots of doggies here this weekend (12). She luvs people and a real snuggler. She was not too crazy about the snow this morning but she did go out! Have not had her out walking; being a California dog, she will need boots & a coat. She doesn't bark even when the others get going! Great in the car, did not try to jump out when the door was opened but think that's because she's scared to jump out! Was fearful of the stairs but got over it when she thought she was missing out on something. No food issues. She truly is a sweet little girl! If we didn't already have four, we'd adopt her in a minute!
She weighs 11.4 lbs but could gain another. From her coloring we think she may have some Jack Russell in her minus the crazy energy that some young Jacks have.
