Signs of Heat Stroke in Dogs
June 25th 2021
As we enter a period of extreme heat, please watch for signs of heat stroke in your dog.
Heat stroke kills dogs. Dogs with moderate heat stroke (a body temperature of 104°) can recover if given prompt first aid and veterinary care.
Emergency First Aid for dogs
Move the dog to a shaded and cool area.
Immediately pour cool (not cold to avoid shock) water over the dog. ...
Allow the dog to drink small amounts of cool water.
Continue to pour cool water over the dog until their breathing starts to settle, but not too much that they start shivering.
Keep your pets cool and out of the heat and avoid exercising them while the temperatures are high.
