Hi, my name is Annie. I am a very affectionate, lovable girl that loves stomach rubs and cuddling with my foster in his lap. While I get very excited when I know I am going for a walk, my foster dad stands calmly with the leash at the door until I calm down and sit nicely for my leash and harness and then wait patiently for the door to open. Since the city is still very new to me, I still pull on walks until I get a little tired and into my routine, but I am working on that (I am very smart) and when I came into my foster home I was already house trained and crate trained so I have been very easy to care for.

I haven’t had any accidents even though my house is big and I haven’t chewed anything I’m not supposed to, even though I can shred a stuffy (or tennis balls, chew toys, sticks) in seconds when the mood grabs me. I know how to sit and shake-a-paw and very quickly pick up new tricks for treats. I am very food motivated, like to chase my ball around the yard and seem to want to fetch sticks, though was I catch them I drop them. I get very excited on walks when I see new dogs but have been learning to relax and keep walking with food distractions and praise. I have also been more closely introduced to new dogs slowly, after which I am happy to walk with them and take in all the sites and sounds and smells at their side. I also appreciate calm energy in my space without lots of jumping and yelling and little kids – if you give me my space I will come around and sit with you for a belly rub, but let me do it at my pace….As a heeler mix I can get excited and have a lot of energy but the bully side of me is a little lazy, so I am happy with 30-45 minute walks on leash in the morning and evening (after which I am happy to stretch out and sleep) but I am also happy to go for 2-3 hour hikes in the mountains as long I have lots of water and a tether (we haven’t really tested my recall in the great outdoors).

I need someone who will be willing to continue to work on my training. I have always been trained with a routine and a good girl and a chest rub. This is all I need for me to want to be a good girl for you. No treats for training.

Squirrels and bunnies still get my attention, and I get the urge to protect the house occasionally, but for the most part I am happy to look out the window and watch the world or sleep in the back of the car when we drive out to the mountains for a hike. I would be good with other dogs after an slow and proper introduction. Mountain bikes are still a novelty, but I am quickly getting used to them on the city pathways and on the trails and know I would be a great dog for trail runners or bikers who like the great outdoors. If you are calm but active and want a very loving companion (despite being a little ball of muscle), I am the girl for you.
