Reign is a wonderful, smart, passionate, playful, and loving dog. Her exuberance is only eclipsed by the size of her heart. She still has her puppy energy and playfulness that can get the best of her sometimes, but she is quick to correct and willing to learn the proper way to behave. At times of pique excitement, she can get mouthy towards hands or feet but she only “mouths” during this time and does not nip or bite. She is also quick to correct this behaviour. Reign has yet to meet a person she doesn’t love right away, and she would live in a permanent hug with her person if she had her way.

We have been crate training Reign throughout her foster and with the exception of some whines, she is content in her crate during the workday and sleeping overnight. Long walks have been a great way to curb her energy and she is getting better at leash walking every day.

Reign is reactive to dogs on leash, but it is not in an aggressive way; it is more so that she wants to play with other dogs so badly that she gets over-excited. From the point we began fostering her until now, that reactivity has improved an immeasurable amount. She wants nothing more than to play with her foster brother (our resident dog), however our dog is much more interested in people and food than other dogs, so she hasn’t had much success. She has however, tried every strategy to entice her foster brother to play, from being rambunctious (her default) to lying on her back and being submissive. While hand feeding treats or meals, she has a very gentle palate. We have no doubt that with the right amount of work and training, Reign will be one of the most loving and best-behaved dog there is and we know the right family is out there for her.

• Does she bark: Seldom (sometimes barks when she can see another dog out the window; or when someone comes into the house and she is in her crate and can’t meet them right away).
• Housetrained: Yes. Learned quickly to go to the bathroom in a designated area in the backyard.
• Good in car: Unknown; previous temporary foster said she could get carsick, but that was improving with more exposure (we have not needed to take her in the car anywhere).
• Good on leash: Moderately. In general, she is quite good and has been improving daily with not pulling and staying close to her walker. She does have a prey drive, especially towards squirrels, where she will get fixated and pull towards them. Using food and consistent training language, this has improved greatly (and we expect it will continue to do so).
• Resource guarding: she has not shown any signs of resource guarding as we have explored this by taking food while she eats and toys/bones while she plays. For example, she can chew on a bone near another dog with no issues.
• Likes: playing, hugs, chewing on bones, chasing soccer balls and frisbees, snuggling, food and treats.

Adoption costs: $650.00
