Gary is a roughly 3-year old Doberman mix. Gary is a Velcro dog - he wants to be where you are and he wants to do what you are doing. He is incredibly smart and affectionate with his people. He is pretty outgoing and generally wants to say Hi! to the dogs and people he meets.
Gary truly shines with other dogs. On play dates, he’s been so even with every dog he meets. From a hyper-submissive pup to some of the more dominant dogs we’ve come across, Gary handles them all. He could be a therapy dog for dogs. On leash he wants to greet other dogs too much, but can be redirected with treats. He’s a very popular guy at doggy daycare.
Gary is uncertain and insecure around young children. With supervised interactions, and his with his person directing him, he will be polite. However, Gary shouldn’t be in a home with young children. He would do best in home with teenagers or adults only who can give him the direction he needs. He has separation anxiety and also crate anxiety that we have been working on. Gary has his breakfast and dinner in his crate with the door open, and stays in his crate while our family eats with the door closed. He gets plenty of special treats in his crate and plays crate games as well. We are able to get him in his crate on command, and are slowly building up the time he spends alone in his crate (three hours so far).
Gary is a high energy guy that is always up for whatever you are up to. He’s come a long way on his leash walking manners, responds well to corrections with pressure and rewards for walking nicely. Gary loves other dogs, and very much wants to meet every dog he sees. He is learning very well that he can’t always say hi, and always responds to treats. He knows sit, off, touch, and come-to. We are working on down and stay. Gary loves hiking and generally exploring, and is very social. A home with another dog or doggy play dates would benefit him greatly!
If you are looking for a dog who can learn any trick in the book, Gary is your guy! If you’re looking for a dog who will can play with any other pooch politely, Gary is your guy! If you’re looking for a cuddle bug who just wants to chill next to you after a great walk or play session, look no further than Gary!
