Ralph

Adopted

Description

Name: Ralph
ID # A145191
Estimated Date of Birth: August 19, 2017
Sex: Neutered Male
Estimated Breed: Shih Tzu Mix
Estimate Weight: 13.9 lbs.
Good with Dogs: Yes, he does not seem bothered by most smaller dogs he has met but he can be the instigator with bigger dogs and any behind a fence. He will linger if not corrected. He annoys my resident dog constantly by trying to bite at his ears and getting up in his face. He would probably be great with another small dog of equal energy but would excel as a solo pet because he loves to be the center of attention.
Good with Cats: Unknown
Good with Children: Unknown, but probably would do best in a home with older kids
Special/Medical Needs:
Estimated Energy Level: Medium
Current Location: Calgary
Adoption fee: $650

Ralph is a very loving and energetic little dog. He is a cutie with a personality to match who just wants to be loved and cared for. He can be extremely friendly with just about everyone he meets. He can also be very nibbly on fingers, knuckles, wrists, etc. While he does not bite it is more an attention seeking habit that requires consistent training and correction. I have not tested him with kids but due to this I would not recommend young ones.
Some of his commands need work but he knows to sit and is learning down and stay. He also knows his name and comes when he is called in the house and yard.
Ralph barks when someone comes to the door or when he hears another dog bark. He cowers when he hears certain noises especially when we are walking. Being a Cali dog, he seems to have a dislike for wet and chilly weather.
Ralph is smart and food motivated so training could be easy. He loves to run around the backyard like it's an obstacle course and might be suited for agility training as he is very, very fast!! He likes to play with soft toys, but he mostly likes to cuddle and will follow me around looking for an opportunity to jump in my lap.
Ralph's leash / harness training is improving everyday, and he enjoys sniffaries! Ralph will lunge after squirrels, birds, etc. and seems interested in cats but no testing has been done. He does not seem bothered by most smaller dogs he has met but he can be the instigator with bigger dogs and any behind a fence. He will linger if not corrected. He annoys my resident dog constantly by trying to bite at his ears and getting up in his face. He would probably be great with another small dog of equal energy but would excel as a solo pet because he loves to be the center of attention.
Ralph likes to investigate and might get into garbage or rip up something if left on his own. Therefore, Ralph would be best in a home where someone is working full time from home, with a retired person, or couple who have all the time to spend with him and keep up his training.
Ralph has only messed in the house a couple of times at the start of his stay with me, so I think he has a good handle on being house trained. He is crate trained and goes in when I need him to or for car rides. He sleeps quietly through the night in his bed in an x-pen.
Ralphie will bring loads of joy and happiness to his forever person or couple!
