Zuri was rescued during a scorching summer heatwave, along with her nine tiny puppies, who were just two weeks old. Tragically, some of the little ones did not make it through the extreme temperatures. Thankfully, the surviving puppies have found loving foster homes or have been adopted into caring families. Now, it’s Zuri’s chance to seek a safe and nurturing environment for herself.
Zuri has been a sweet, gentle and very cuddly dog from day 1 of welcoming her into the home. Our home has 2 kids (13y and 6y) and she has been very playful and gentle with both! When she gets super excited, she likes to stand up with you and put her paw on you. She does this often with my son and I. She is especially good with recognizing that my 6y old daughter is smaller, so she won't attempt to stand up on my daughter. She is a cuddly dog, loves to lay on you and loves lots of pets. I would describe her energy level as low-medium. When we are winding down watching TV, she is mostly laying around with us. She loves to play with her toys, especially ripping out the fluff from all the stuffies. Sometimes she mistakens the kids toys as her own, so I would be cautious to put those away :)
She is wonderful with kids, she does not seem to have an aggressive bone in her body! She loves to be around other dogs and loves to play with them. She is good to be around cats but is still keeping her distance, trying to figure out what the heck a cat is. She does not try to chase or intimidate the cat.
She rarely barks at home, she does not bark when the doorbell rings and she does not bark if there are strangers.
She loves to go on walks and also goes running with my son while he is on his bike. She is great on a leash and doesn't pull.
She is house trained for the most part and uses the bathroom mostly outside. She's only had 2 accidents in the house over the 10 day period with us.
She does not seem to like car rides and it's usually a struggle to get her inside the car. However, when she's inside she does well in the car ride with a little slight crying.
She did not do well with the crate. If we have her inside the crate while we are on, she usually is crying and barking when we leave. We struggle to get her inside the crate and have to motivate her with treats to get inside. She ripped apart the plastic flooring of her crate while we were gone once, i've since replaced it with plywood (recommended by my neighbours). It seems to be working so far. I would say she has some separation anxiety and just wants to be around company and not left alone. The longest she's been alone has been 3 hours in the crate.
She likes to stand up on the counters and dinner tables so you have to be wary with food! She knows how to open and dig into the garbage cans so I keep it put away when she is unattended downstairs.
Zuri would do well with a household where she will not be left alone for too long of periods as she has some separation anxiety. She is great with kids and dogs for sure. The perfect family would be someone who can give her lots of love and cuddles and ideally not leave her alone all day. She just loves to love!
