Tesla (or Tessie as we call him) has been thriving in his new foster home after experiencing neglect in his previous home. Every day, we work on socializing him with other dogs, including our own pack. He loves to play with other dogs but can come on a bit strong at first due to his lack of prior socialization. To manage this, we keep a lead on him for correction when needed.

Tessie walks like a dream. There’s no pulling, lunging, or reactivity. He happily trots alongside you, simply enjoying your company.

He is incredibly smart and learns quickly. He goes into his crate without any issues, sleeps through the night, and is fully potty trained. This little guy currently weighs 34 pounds but is expected to gain some weight as he was underfed in his previous home.

Tesla is a counter surfer, so having a lead on inside has been very helpful for correcting this behavior. Despite our efforts, he remains pretty determined to find snacks, earning him the nickname “Starving Marvin.” He is always hungry and highly food motivated.

He does not resource guard his food when eating from a bowl, but he doesn’t like anyone nearby while using a slow feeder—it’s frustrating enough for him as it is.

Potential concerns:

Tesla doesn’t like being grabbed by the collar and will turn toward you, although he hasn’t bitten. This behavior likely stems from being grabbed negatively by the collar in the past and is a trigger for him.

Tesla is not good with cats.

He is still a young dog at six months, so he has some maturing and learning to do, but he’s exceptionally smart and easy to train.

We’ve been working on nail trims, and so far, he allows us to trim them without issues when he’s relaxed.

He is living with a dog trainer, so he’s learning all the rules and boundaries both inside the home and outside.

Summary of traits:

Good with dogs: Yes, but he needs a calm approach and guidance.

Good with cats: No.

Good with kids: Yes, but avoid surprise grabs.

Good in the car: Yes! He goes straight into the crate in my van and rides shotgun in the truck.

Crate trained: Yes.

Potty trained: Yes.

At the end of the day, Tesla loves a cuddle and chewing on his bones. He would thrive in a home with another active young dog, as he really enjoys playing. His current routine includes two 45-minute walks daily, along with fetch, tug, and obedience training in between. After each session, he goes into his crate for a few hours of rest, which he does without complaint.

Tesla is a fantastic dog who’s equally happy to work and rest!
