Meet Benny — a big personality with an even bigger heart 🐶💛
Benny is a fun-loving, high-energy boy who is looking for a confident, understanding home where he can truly thrive. Benny sometimes forgets how big he is with his long legs. He would do best with adults or older children, as he can be mouthy when he’s excited and likes to “direct” his people using his mouth. With proper redirection, he quickly understands what’s expected.
Benny is a smart boy who knows his basic commands, including sit, down, off, and paw, and he can even sit and wait patiently for his meals until he’s told “go.” He is highly treat-motivated, which makes continued training both fun and rewarding for him and his future family.
Benny loves the great outdoors—especially when he’s off leash in a safely fenced area. This is where his joyful personality really shines! He’s known for epic backyard zoomies, jumping on the trampoline, and happily tossing his favorite balls and squeaky toys around. He loves to play tug, and we are working on fetch. Because of his high prey drive and nervousness on walks, he’s not ready for off-leash adventures in open spaces just yet. He’s been making progress with leash manners, particularly when using a Halti, and will do best with someone committed to continuing his training.
Socially, Benny does best with dogs that can match his energy. He’s enjoyed many successful doggy playdates and has attended doggy daycare multiple times, where he’s done great. He can be a bit cautious when meeting new dogs, but slow, respectful introductions help him build trust—and once he does, he’s an absolute sweetheart. Benny would thrive in a house with another high energy dog.
At home, Benny can be a dream. He’s fully crate-trained but can also be trusted to relax on his own during the day. One of his favorite pastimes is lounging on his bed, gazing out the window, enjoying a frozen Kong, and snoozing the hours away. He doesn’t bark at passersby, though new faces at the door make him nervous and his loud bark can be intimidating. He will do better with confident experienced dog owners that know how to properly introduce him to new people. He currently sleeps on his own dog bed, but he would love to sleep in his human's bed.
Benny is highly food-motivated and has a very healthy appetite—meals disappear fast! A snuffle mat helps slow him down and keeps his clever brain engaged. He is very tall and we are working on his manners when it comes to counter surfing. Grooming has been a breeze for him; he’s done well at the groomer and is comfortable having his nails trimmed at home.
Benny is looking for a patient, active home that will embrace his quirks, continue his training, and give him plenty of opportunities to run, play, and feel secure. In return, he’ll reward you with loyalty, laughter, and a whole lot of love.
