Littleton came to us as a very sick and traumatized puppy. Not completely sure of her background, we do know that she was found alone, at about 8 weeks old, with no mom or sibling's around. She was emaciated, lethargic and sickly. It took no time for her bounce back, with a lot of love, a good source of food, and a little bit of patience and you'd never know this puppy had a hard start.
Littleton is a very loyal puppy, and is very eager to please. She is quite a polite little lady, and will sit and wait for to see what you would like her to do. When she knows you are going to give her a bowl of food or a treat, she immediately sits and waits for you to give it to her. Even as a starved puppy who couldn't wait to get food, she would do this. Littleton started out food aggressive when she first came into care because of the starvation, but now is able to eat out of the same dish as our pugs, doesn't get upset if anyone touches the bowl, and is able to be free fed, as she knows the food supply isn't going to stop. We pick up the food dish after dinner and this has helped reduce poop accidents at night.
Littleton has been exposed to dogs, cats, and kids (4 year old and a 13 year old). She is amazing with everyone. She pretty much ignores the cats unless one tries to engage with her, she’s never chased a cat either, she does not have high prey instincts.
She adores our pugs, and has made a best friend with my 5 year old pug. They play quite well together, but my pugs don’t correct her naughty puppy behaviour, so she can be a bit face biter when playing with other dogs. A more dominate dog to correct her will clear that right up. She can be nervous when first meeting a new dog, especially if they ar quite a bit bigger than her.
Littleton loves to play with our 4 year old grand daughter. She gets quite excited when the little person comes over because she knows it’s time to run! She loves the backyard, all the smells and exploring is one of her favourite things to do. She has not yet learned to ask to go outside and will sit at the door when she ready to come in, but goes out quite happily. She has mastered stairs as well. Littleton has been on the leash quite a bit but still pulls back when scared and requires more time and patience to master this.
Littleton doesn’t bark when someone new comes in the house, or knocks but she will bark and get vocal while playing. Even with my pugs yapping at something, she stands and observes instead of participating in the noise. She has toys but prefers to play with a human or another dog.
Littleton has never been locked in a crate since her transport to care. She has her own room in her foster home but does sleep in a large crate at night. She loves to drag her stuffies in to sleep with.
Littleton is the best car companion I have ever met. She doesn’t wander around the vehicle and just lays in her seat quietly. It’s hard to not take her everywhere because she’s so well behaved.
Littleton has had her first shots and did have a reaction to them. She ended up quite itchy and was cooling her paws in her water dish. This only lasted for a day, but she has discovered that splashing in the water dish is quite fun, and has been making a mess. Until this behaviour can be corrected, you can’t leave her unsupervised with her dish unless you enjoying mopping!
If you are looking for a good dog to enrich your life, this little girl is for you. She’s sweet and smart and would make your home a happier place.
