Arwen is a cute, quiet, quirky little girl. She was very fearful when she first arrived in our care. She needed her decompression time and was quite needy for the first week. She is absolutely in love with my husband, she prefers men. She is very interested in any men we encounter on our walks. She does not like the quick movements of small children so she would do better in an older child or child-free home. Arwen can be needy at times; she likes to follow my husband around and will only take food from him. When I serve her, she tends to sit down by her food and shiver. She was also afraid of eating out of her dog bowl at first. I got her a placemat to eat off and over time she has gotten better at eating from her bowl. I do think that over time this behaviour with decrease and she will become more confident, as she has already become more independent in the short time she has been with us.

Arwen responds to positive reinforcement, if she is scolded ever so slightly, she becomes overly remorseful. I did not want her on the carpet upstairs, so I told her in a normal tone to come down and she hunched over and became so sad I almost just let her break my rule. I ended up picking her up and comforting her until she seemed happier. Arwen gets along well with other small dogs. She is a submissive dog who keeps to herself in the pack. I am not sure how she is around big dogs, but I could test her with my parents 14 year old lab first if someone is interested. If she does well with the subdued geriatric dog, then we could test her with another large dog. I don't know how she is with cats, but she would probably be fine as she does not show any prey drive. We could also test her with cats during a home visit.

Arwen some days shows signs of being house trained, other times I think she can't resist going on the rugs. I think as long as she sticks to going outside on a regular schedule, she will become fully house trained very soon. We kennel Arwen at night and when we leave. At night she does not make a sound in her kennel. In general, she hardly ever barks and never joins in on my dogs' barking. Arwen is not that keen on going outside to the backyard. She usually goes out, does her business and comes back in. She does not care about backyard exploration. Arwen would probably do well in a condo/townhouse/apartment because she is quiet and not very outdoorsy. Once Arwen bonds with her new person she will make a loyal friend and loving companion.
