Personality Traits:
Ice Cube is a sweet, energetic, and affectionate boy. He loves people and will happily accept (or demand) pets all day long!
He has a lot of energy but is very capable of hanging out calmly while you are around as well. He does get the occasional zoomies where he will bark at you for attention or to be let outside to zoom the backyard.
Cube is not much of a cuddler unless pets are being administered at the same time. He prefers to lay in his own bed for the most part but is extremely affectionate and loves to spend time being doted on by people.
Cube has gotten a lot better at redirecting his playful energy toward toys when requested. He still likes to wrestle and jump but is open to switching to tug-of-war and fetch with his toys.

Behaviour:
Cube has made huge improvements in his time at his foster home.
He still has some separation anxiety but has improved greatly in his ability to be home alone. He will get into things if they are left out somewhere accessible to him, but as long as food is not left somewhere he can reach (which is anything mid-counter range!) and he is left in a calm state when you depart the home he will generally not cause any damage.
Cube has also made great progress on learning not to jump on people when he is excited and redirecting himself to his “place” when he’s overly excited to wait for the attention to come to him.
We have stopped putting Cube in a closed-door kennel due to suspected negative prior experiences in that scenario. He will sleep in his kennel overnight but can get triggered when the door is closed by sounds and movements nearby, so we have switched to allowing him to sleep in his dog bed instead. He sleeps through the night with no issues!
Cube has proven himself to be great with other dogs! He can still sometimes come on a bit strong on the introduction on leash walks due to excitement but is friendly and has not had any issues with proper introductions. He does not know how to play with other dogs yet but is very interested in joining when he sees other dogs playing!
He has met quite a few children now and is good with them, even at face level he just soaks in the pets and might put his paw up to request more. Due to his interest in getting involved in play and still learning regulate his excitement we do think older children would be best and/or recommend closely monitoring him when in the vicinity of younger children.
Training & Accomplishments:
He has learned where his “place” is and can be directed there when his energy is over the top, while waiting for his food, after coming home from a walk to decompress, when the doorbell rings, and when new people are entering the home. He is good at remaining in “place” until he is given a release command.
Cube’s fear does still occasionally manifest in barking, growling, and charging, but with consistent training and reassurance this behaviour presents itself a lot less frequently. He might growl or bark when hearing a sound on a different level of the house but will stay in his place when asked and read the situation before reacting in most scenarios now.
We had a few sessions with Cori and Cube has learned how to walk on his leash extremely well! We have been having the most success with the slip lead style of leash.
We haven’t tested much of his recall when off-leash, but he will likely need training on this before letting him off anywhere that is not fenced in.

Ideal Home:
Ice Cube’s ideal home is one where he won’t be home alone too frequently for long periods of time. He will likely be able to adjust to more time alone over time but will need to be worked with to get to that stage due to his separation anxiety. He’ll do best in a home with either no children or older children and with a family who is willing to keep up his training to mitigate behaviours caused from negative experiences in his past.
We think a home with another, more confident dog would be great for him as it would help with his separation anxiety and provide the companionship he loves.
