Rolex is a great big sweetie pie! He loves pats, pets and snuggles. If you shower him with love he will roll over onto his back and give you a great big smile. He follows his people around just to be close. If he’s in the same spot for a while he takes the opportunity to grab a nap. I can’t emphasize enough how sweet he is. His energy level is pretty low in the house although he can get riled up with a game of tug. Outside he likes floppy toys he can shake and give back to his person to toss. He will go ‘bonkers’ for a bit and then calm down.

Wonderful with children. We have a 10 and 11 year old and have had several little visitors (2,3,4 year olds). He is very respectful and loves their pets. The little ones are instructed to stay standing as Rolex can forget he is pretty heavy and should not stand on someone to give them kisses.

He has not fully met our cat yet but he REALLY wants to. When kitty gets brave and decides to get in sight Rolex barks and tries to get to him, tail wagging. I’m sure in time this will get less exciting and kitty will be able to resume his normal duties.

He can get riled up about unfamiliar sounds. When the garbage truck does pick up in the alley he is pretty dramatic about it. He has gotten use to the sounds of other dogs in the neighbourhood and people passing by so doesn’t make a fuss about these as often. When we are in the yard and a neighbour comes out onto their deck he is a bit surprised about this and needs to tell everyone.

Walks beautifully on leash. Is easily distracted when he becomes too interested in something. Needs to learn how to greet other dogs as his over excitement is not always conducive to a good greeting. No major problems, we are just taking our time to make sure he learns good social habits.

We are working on sit and stay. He is great at both of these unless overstimulate by a busy environment. Nailing it in the back yard with treats and a clicker. Always comes when called. He has learned to ‘wait’ to enter and exit the house and is learning this to leave his crate or receive a meal. Responds well to ‘no’ and ‘ah ahh’ for chewing, licking, trying to go upstairs, etc. Gives up easily when ignored while asking for food from the dinner table. No need for strong correction with this softie. Just say it, mean it, be consistent and he will get it quickly.

He is not crazy about being separated from his people. We are crate training in a large wire crate. He was quite fearful of the smaller plastic crate. He does better every day. He ‘cries’ for about 10 minutes now and then settles in. Much better than day one when he destroyed his dog bed. And day two when he was somehow was able to reach it from outside his crate and further obliterate it. We give him a kong full of wet food and a teddy bear with peanut butter smeared on its ears and off we go without a fuss made from us. When we return he is instructed to ‘wait’ so can settle down before he can exit the crate. Then he gets to come out for a cuddle party which is his favourite part of the day.

Rolex is waiting for an X-ray of his knee. He is currently restricted to short walks and needs to be lifted in and out of the car. He can do about 4 stairs up or down. He is house trained but as of yet is not ‘asking’ to go out.

The perfect family for Rolex is one that can gently and consistently maintain a pack structure. In the beginning he was quick to assume liberties like counter surfing, sitting on furniture, pushing his way through people etc. Because he is so food motivated we don’t allow him to have any people food as he would become a snack bandit pretty quickly. He has done very well with this philosophy and is a super happy and well behaved boy.
