Hi, I’m Burch, an approximately one-year old Heeler mix. I came all the way from Bakersfield,
California and I’m looking for an active family that is experienced with herding breeds. I adore
people - kids and adults alike! I get excited when the young ones run around though, and I
tend to get nippy, so a home with older kids that can handle my style of play may be best. I’m
very loyal and will shadow my favourite person around the house. Going to the bedroom? I’m
there! Bathroom? I’ll protect you! Kitchen? My favourite place to help you sample snacks. I also
like to give hugs, kisses, and affectionate nibbles.

I enjoy playing with some other dogs, but I’m selective of my friends right now as I’m still
learning condence and proper social skills. I’m very mouthy and not all dogs enjoy that.
Sometimes I chomp a little too hard. Plus, I love barking at my potential playmates to tell them I
want to be friends. I can come across as abrasive and reactive, but with some time and
patience, and proper handling, I’ll definitely improve.

When there’s no distractions, I walk so nicely on my leash. I’m a great walking or jogging
partner! I do tend to get a little worked up over seeing other dogs, large vehicles and things
with wheels, but that desire to chase is just built into me! Help me increase my threshold, and
teach me what I SHOULD chase and what I SHOULDN’T and I’ll be such a gem. My body was
built for speed, so maybe I’m destined for sports. Maybe frisbee? Agility? Flyball? I’d love to try
them with you and see where my natural talents take me!

In the house I’m making amazing progress with my foster family. I know ‘sit’, ‘lay-down’, ‘wait’
(for my food as it’s being set down), ‘come’, ‘let go’ or ‘drop it’ when playing fetch, ‘kennel’ to
go into my crate, and I’m getting better with ‘o’ for furniture and counter surng. Of course, I
require treats for such diligent listening, but I’m HIGHLY food motivated, so I love to train!
At rst I wasn’t sure where to go to the bathroom, so I had some accidents in the house, but
now that I know where I can do my business I sit by the back door and either stare at my foster
mom, or sometimes sni the back door to let her know I need a potty break.

I find balloons fun to bounce in the air until I pop them with my teeth, and I won’t pass up a
good game of indoor fetch or tug. I have a hard time playing these games in the yard still
because my satellite dish ears focus on every little noise going on around me. The world here is
just so new and interesting! Not to mention, I have a rather high prey-drive.

I’m a heavy chewer so things like bully sticks are good to keep me busy indoors. I also tend to
Hoover my food, so my foster mom got me a slow feeder bowl - she says it’s worked wonders!
I nd puzzle feeders fun too and I’m getting good at using my paws and nose rather than trying
to rip it open.

I love going places! I do whine in the car at first, but it’s just because I’m so excited to get
where we’re going! I settle down after a bit and ride quietly the rest of the way. If you’re looking
for an athletic, spunky, adventure buddy, then I’m your gal! If you can put in the time and work
to smooth my rough edges, I’ll be the best companion you’ve ever had!
