I’ve had the pleasure of fostering Romaine (Romy) for the last two weeks and she has been the only pup that has brought every single one of my family to their knees. Literally. Being one of the pups who started off her journey with Parvo, she did not have a lot of human connection during some of the most crucial times. When we picked her up from Barcs, we had to carry her out as she was not willing to walk to follow us. She was immediately the MOST comfortable under our coffee table or in her kennel. I thought she was shy, but I also knew she was so, so curious as her tail would wag frantically every time a human would walk by. We spent the first few afternoons just lying on the ground while watching tv and she would slowly come out more and more and stay for longer and longer each time. I thought maybe we just had to earn her trust but parts of me think that she just had to learn how to be a dog. She now prefers to run and play with our other dog outside or if he is being lazy, whatever toy is light enough for her dainty little body to throw in the air and chase. She is still a huge fan of cuddling if you lay on the floor as she doesn’t like to be on furniture, she rings the bells every time she wants to go outside making her fully house trained, She LOVES her kennel so going to bed at night is a breeze. I rarely close it up as I already trust her around the house (first pup that has earned those rights so quick). She gets along great with my other dog, the kids lover her because she doesn’t jump up and my cat even hangs around a little more to play with her. She has a demeanour that matches those puppy dog eyes and is so ready to learn everything there is to being a family dog! She’s going to be so great at it!
House trained, people trained, great manners naturally, great with cats, listens to “no” on the drop of a dime. We have yet to take her for a walk. She is still most comfortable within the surroundings she knows but I feel like we will get there soon!
