Fossil is just the right size: large enough that you don’t have to worry about stepping on him, and with his 13 lbs he is easy to carry when needed. It takes him a couple of days to get used to a new person. Then he is your very best friend.

Fossil was a stray dog in California. In his few weeks in the local shelter, he became less fearful. Since his arrival in Calgary, he has become a different dog. He seemed to change daily, mostly for the better (we heard his first bark at the end of week one). He is becoming pretty good at walking on a leash. Daily brushing helped him getting used to grooming. He has such lovely soft long hair; we want the adopter to decide how much to cut off.

Fossil is busy much of the day, full of bounces. A yard or large balcony will help to get the puppy energy out. He loves playing fetch, and he is very good on his hind feet. I bet he could learn to dance. He loves chew toys. If we forget to stock up his supply, he has no problem finding his own. Seedling pots are nice and crunchy, and shoes are tempting. Living in a home is so different than on the street, so many rules! We are working on the command: “leave it” and hoping that this will also be helpful with barking at dogs on our walks. If I notice him getting nervous at a dog in the distance, most of the time I can get him to pay attention to me and stay calm. He is treat-motivated, but when it comes to his kibble, he is a grazer.

Fossil would be good as an only dog. Inside he rarely barks, unless there are new visitors, and especially if another dog visits. Slow introduction is important. He is good with children.

Currently we keep him in a larger crate when we cannot supervise him, and he doesn’t mind. We have not noticed any separation anxiety. Fossil is basically house trained, and he does not mark.

When he is not busy chewing, his favorite spot is sleeping in my lap. At night he sleeps in his kennel; we don’t hear a single sound from him. He would love to sleep on the bed with us.

Fossil is an affectionate bundle of joy. He will lick you to death if you let him.

Adoption costs: $650.00
