If she could speak, she’d have a heartbreaking pre-rescue story to share I’m sure.
This tiny girl is listed as an 8 month old Pittie mix, who was found as a stray in Bakersfield, California. She arrived on the June 14, 2025 WWE themed transport - all the dogs had names that were chosen by their sponsors - so please allow me to introduce you to Natalya.
Unlike the real wrestler Natalya, this one is a terrible traveller. Her journey here was not her finest moment, with a puddle of drool surrounding her to prove it upon her arrival. Also unlike the real Natalya, this sweetheart has zero self confidence in a crowd, and arrived incredibly shut down. It’s suspected she’s a little younger than originally guessed based on her behaviour once she finally relaxed in her foster home. Best guess is closer to 6 months old. She’s about 21lbs, and steadily gaining some much needed weight.
Speed “dating” questions for Nat:
Is she good with other dogs? Yes, with really slow, proper introductions. She’s very afraid, and still learning to read other dog’s cues, and often gets it wrong.
Is she good with cats? Not tested - likely no
Is she good with kids? Older kids would be best with how scared and unsure she is at this stage of her rescued life.
Does she bark? Yes. She’s a bit fear reactive and will bark if something or someone scares her. She seems to respond well to redirection as soon as she trusts you. With her being as small and as young as she is, barking was likely her only defence as a stray so this will just take patience and some positive interactions to turn her fear back into normal puppy curiosity again.
Does she jump? She may be part kangaroo, or cat. She’s cleared a baby gate at the top of the stairs - going up. She uses the first three steps of our staircase landing as a launch pad into the living room. And she casually, yet silently, counter surfs…even if you’re watching. So I’m inclined to lean towards yes as the answer to this question. At this point I’m convinced she can fly.
Is she house trained? She was a stray, then lived at an overcrowded facility, so this is probably brand new for her. While she didn’t arrive with any potty training, she has been a very quick learner! When let out regularly, she has remained accident free in her foster home. She’s still learning how to ask, but is improving by the day. She chugs water like a frat kid chugging beer, so you’ll need to monitor her water intake until she relaxes and realizes fresh water will always be available, or you’ll be doing one of two things: a lot of potty breaks or a lot of indoor accident clean ups.
This little girl had a terrible start, but as with most pitties she forgives quickly and has happily moved on. She has SO much wiggly bum love to share if you can just go her speed at the beginning…
Can you be her hero? She’ll love you FUREVER!
