š¾ Meet Billy Ray š¾
Billy Ray is the kind of dog that makes people say, āI donāt usually like small dogs, but I like this one!ā
In a real stroke of luck, he came essentially fully crate trained! He sleeps through the night in his crate with no issuesāso much so that Iām the one waking him up each morning. Because I work from home, he hasnāt had to spend much time alone, but on the rare occasions he has, Iāve put him in his crate and havenāt heard a peep when I leave or come back. My neighbours havenāt mentioned any barking either (and with past fosters, Iād definitely hear about it if they were barking for hours).
He hasnāt been tested home alone outside of his crate yet, but I donāt have concernsāhe hasnāt chewed anything other than toys. Occasionally heāll pick up a shoe, but it seems to be only to carry it around. Heās mostly potty trained and has only had a couple of accidents in the house.
Billy Ray is a pretty perfect work-from-home buddy. Heās content to spend most of his day snoozing at my feet or on the couch, and when heās awake he entertains himself well with his toys. We live beside a school, and while heāll occasionally bark at the kids walking by, heās very easily redirected.
Billy Ray shares the house with our resident cat, Ruby. Heās respectfully curious about her, while sheā¦kind of hates him. He likes to investigate what sheās doing, and she screams at him for his troubleābut he always backs off. Heās never escalated the situation or even barked back at her. If you have a dog-friendly cat, Iām sure they could be buddies!
Heās the only dog in our home, but after a slow introduction he loved tearing around and playing with my parentsā three dogs. I believe heād do well in a home with another dog, as long as introductions are handled thoughtfully.
If youāre looking for a guard dog, Billy Ray is not your guy. Every time someone enters the house, heās thrilled thereās another set of hands to potentially pet him. To Billy, every stranger is just a friend he hasnāt met yet. š
