Keith Urban! 🎸🪿
Goose got his nickname because he’s a little silly, sometimes “flies” down the last few stairs, and because he has the spirit of a true Canadian goose. Just like a goose that can be sitting peacefully one moment and then spring into action to defend its territory or family under a perceived threat, Goose can shift from being a cuddly sidekick to loudly announcing himself to the world. It’s likely a habit he learned as a stray, but he’s now discovering he doesn’t need to be on guard anymore.
Personality & Quirks
Playful, curious, and quick to learn boundaries. He only had to be shown once that the kitchen island wasn’t for jumping on, and he hasn’t done it since.
A true stop-and-go kind of dog: bold and energetic during play, calm and cuddly when it’s time to rest.
Sleeps soundly through the night.
Housetraining
Catching on quickly with a consistent routine.
No accidents after the first few days.
Training & Behaviour
Excellent in the car! No barking. Looks out the window or goes to sleep.
Fantastic on leash: walks calmly past women and small dogs.
Learning commands: come, leave it, lay down
Gets overstimulated when other dogs get too rowdy, when toys are involved, and will bark, growl, or nip in excitement.
Barks in response to door knocking and doorbells.
With larger dogs and some men (especially bearded), he will bark and lunge like he’s the size of a mastiff.
Thanks to clicker training and praise, he’s getting easier to redirect, but his new adopters must be committed to working with him to guide his youthful energy, teach boundaries, and help him feel secure while channeling that energy appropriately—for his and other dogs’ safety.
Food-motivated and eager for attention, which makes him a great candidate for further training.
Likes & Dislikes
Loves: food, treats (especially chicken Pure-Bites), walks with lots of stuff to sniff, playtime at Petfinity, attention, cuddles.
Dislikes: being left out—he’ll always remind you he’s there!
Other Pets & Children
Dogs: Plays well, even in daycare, with small dogs and calm dogs.
Cats: When excited, he’ll play tag with the cats (they’re always “it”), but he stops quickly when they jump out of reach or told to “leave it.” Reads cat body language well and also happily curls up beside them.
Children: No exposure.
Keith Urban’s Ideal Home
Prepared to support him with training that directs his energy in positive ways, reinforces boundaries, and ensures safe play with other dogs.
Enjoy an active lifestyle with exercise and play.
Have the patience to help him understand he doesn’t need to protect himself anymore—he’s safe and loved.
Can welcome him as the only dog, or with cats and other dogs (slow introductions recommended with larger dogs).
