Meet Dracula 🧛‍♂️

He's one of the friendliest giants around, and still is only just a puppy at one year old. Drac came on a recent transport from Bakersfield, California, but struggled in his first foster and found himself at the BARC's facility through no fault of his own. His second foster has been a much better fit for him, and he's been doing great learning his house manners and basic obedience...though he'd much rather not.

Drac is a big boy, and an even bigger baby. He loves everyone he meets, and often forgets he's enormous. He jumps up and gives full bear hugs - which are actually quite awesome - making discouraging said behaviour a challenge. And he's super gentle, so even strangers can't help but smile and hug him back...because you guessed it, this boy is not afraid to hug a stranger. He's still working on learning that humping his new fur friends is not appropriate, but the two females in his current foster are doing a great job teaching him. He can come on a bit strong, and will need a patient fur sibling to show him the ropes.

Speed dating questions for DRAC:

What type of home would he thrive in? He's s social butterfly, and he's got a lot of energy. He'd do best in an active home and/or a home with fur friends to keep him busy. Drac went on a day-pass adventure out in the mountains with a BARC's volunteer a few days before he went to his foster home and he had a blast! He's a fairly high energy, yet typical outgoing and friendly lab.

How is he with other dogs? He thinks all dogs are instantly his best friend. They don't always agree, and he's learning to read body language and take cues from others dogs. He often gets it wrong, but accepts correction from his fellow dogs quite well, and is learning more and more each day.

How is he with cats? Not tested, but suspected he would do with a dog savvy cat that doesn't mind being chased every now and then

How is he with kids? He loves them. He's incredibly friendly, but his size and lack of manners should be considered when phasing him in a family with young/small kids. He's a bit mouthy and he can easily knock people over without even trying. It's like having a small pony in the house.

Is he house trained? Hallelujah, he seems to have arrived with this skill! So far Drac has had no accidents in the house, and once he knows where the door is to ask, he'll go to the door when he needs out. He can easily sleep through the night without needing outside...unless something has upset his tummy, in which case he'll make a loud enough fuss to wake you up so he can go outside.

How is he in the car? We're still practicing to be a pro passenger. Drac gets a little car sick on occasion, but seems to be improving with each trip he takes. He should have this mastered in no time.

How is he on leash? He's strong, and needs some work on his leash manners. He'll need some further training here for sure. He's not been leash reactive at all while in foster, so while he's strong, he's fairly easy to handle and redirect when needed. With some practice, I think he'll be a great walking buddy.

Does he bark? He's a fairly vocal guy, but rarely busts out his big bark. He's more of a complainer. Drac is a bit of a scaredy cat, and will need some help with his confidence levels while being left alone.

Does he have separation anxiety? Yes, but it seems normal at this point. He doesn't like to be alone, but he settles within minutes and seems to do just fine when he has to be left.

Is he crate trained? Yes, but he hates going in it. Treats help a lot. He'd prefer to be your velcro dog, so crates are definitely not his first choice for when you leave or are going to bed.

Other quirks and traits:
He's still quite mouthy and very clumsy. He's like a baby giraffe on his new legs most times
He loves to play with dogs smaller than him. He loses every single time (on purpose), and loves every second of it
He'll steal stuffies from ANYONE (no shame)
He protests like a disgruntled teenager
He loves all types of food
He counter surfs with ease because he can...most are the perfect height for him to reach!
He pees a little and flops over and submits if he thinks he's in trouble
He's the happiest guy you'll ever meet, and just wants to be your bestie
