Lilly
Lilly has become a truly wonderful addition to our foster family. She is fantastic with my two children and is especially fascinated by my baby. You will often find her gently stationed beside the playpen, happily accepting pets from tiny baby hands. She has even tried to “share” her treats and toys with the baby. If I hadn’t seen it myself, I would not have believed it.
She looks like the dog from All Dogs Go to Heaven but has the playful spirit of the dog in Peter Pan. Lilly loves to follow me from room to room while I go about my day. She is calm most of the time and enjoys simply being near her people.
Lilly will bark, usually when she sees a dog walking past the house. She is very friendly with visitors and greets them with enthusiasm and a wagging tail. When guests arrive, she can get a little excited and may try to jump up, but she listens when firmly told to stay down. I believe she is highly intelligent and just needs continued work on her basic training.
She can be a bit of a chewer and has gotten hold of a few things that were not hers. She especially enjoys chewing on her bone, so having appropriate chew items available is important.
Lilly loves her walks and seems to know exactly when it is time to go. She enjoys sniffing along the way and prefers a leisurely pace. She does not react to other dogs on walks, although she gets quite excited if she spots a squirrel. She does well with small dogs and enjoys seeing puppies, but she is not particularly interested in interacting with larger dogs.
Lilly enjoys being on furniture. For a former stray, she seems very comfortable curling up on couches and beds to relax. She has not shown any attempts to escape the yard or bolt through open doors. She likes spending time outside, often relaxing on the deck soaking up the sun and scenery. She listens consistently when called inside and responds well to correction. Her understanding of what is asked of her is impressive.
Lilly does not enjoy car rides and is still unsure about them. She is also not a fan of the vacuum, so I simply let her spend time outside while it is running.
Although I do not usually foster larger dogs, Lilly has been an absolute joy to have. She often comes up for pets, gazing up with her soulful eyes in a way that makes anyone feel appreciated and loved. She adores belly rubs and head scratches.
Lilly would fit beautifully with young adults starting out, retirees, a family, or a single person. She truly adapts well to many lifestyles. I cannot say enough wonderful things about her. I am constantly telling friends and family how special she is.
