🤎 Meet Gravy
Gravy is an absolute sweetheart you can’t help but instantly fall in love with. 💛
This poor guy had a run-in with a porcupine that was severe enough that the vet even considered euthanizing him. Thankfully, BARC’s stepped in to help.
Gravy was really depressed recovering at the facility and soon found himself heading home with a “serial foster” who met him in passing and couldn’t let him stay there any longer. Gravy is now in foster care, recovering like a champ!
He’s in a home full of dog friends, and he’s so much happier. While he may still have some tender or sore areas, you’d never know it watching him play with his foster fur sisters. Sometimes all you need is a little extra love to get through the rough days. ❤️

🤎 Speed Dating Questions for Gravy
🏡 What type of home would he thrive in?
One with older kids, a fenced backyard for him to play in, and possibly a fur sibling companion.
🐕 Is he dog friendly?
So far yes! With proper introductions, he’s done great with other dogs.
🐈 How is he with cats?
Unknown and not tested. Likely not great with them unless they’re super dog-savvy.
👧 How is he with kids?
Older is best — he’s a bit mouthy and jumps up when excited to see you.
🔊 Does he bark?
Rarely. He whines or “talks” more than he barks, usually in protest of being on kennel rest — so you can’t really blame him.
😌 Does he have any separation anxiety?
None noticed so far while in foster care.
⚠️ Any behavioural issues?
He’s kennel-reactive toward other dogs - he snarls pretty angrily, which startles everyone. This only happens when he’s inside his kennel. Outside of it, he’s a completely different dog! The same dog he snarls at is actually his best friend and favourite play partner. It seems fear-based, and he’s slowly improving each day, reacting less to familiar dogs. With continued support, he should work through this successfully.
🚗 How is he in the car?
No issues! He’s fine riding in a kennel or being out and hasn’t shown signs of stress or car sickness.
🐾 How is he on leash?
He could use some additional leash training, but he’s not bad! He’s strong and needs someone to continue working with him, but he responds immediately to verbal corrections - so training should be straightforward.
🚽 Is he housetrained?
Yes! No accidents since arriving in foster, even while learning where to go. He sleeps through the night without issues.
🦴 Is he crate/kennel trained?
Yes, no issues being in his kennel.

🤎 Medical
Gravy was quilled by a porcupine and is currently on antibiotics and pain meds.
Recovery may take some time as quills continue to migrate from areas of his face and neck. He’s being closely monitored in foster care and is seeing a vet for complications during this tough recovery. He may require another removal surgery in the future, depending on where some quills have ended up.

🤎 Quirks & Traits
Kennel-reactive toward dogs
Looks down and smiles, showing his teeth (almost shyly)
A bit jumpy — being a big boy, he can knock you over if you’re not ready
Mouthy in a puppy-like way; although listed as 3 years old, he acts much younger
Very curious and doesn’t seem to know any commands yet
Won’t let his foster remove quills — he’s had enough face-touching for now! He just squirms away rather than showing aggression
Loves to stay very close to his person
Takes treats much gentler than you’d expect from a boy his size
Shows no signs of fear toward people — even men
