Kelly

Adopted

Description

Female, 3 years, pit bull X, 50 lbs

Kelly is the sweetest little love bug. She lives for cuddles and kisses, and loves her people! She’s very easy-going with medium energy, and is perfect in her crate without any complaint during the day or at night. She has overall pretty good house manners: she is non-destructive when left out, doesn’t steal anything or do any counter surfing. Kelly hasn’t shown any resource guarding behavior around food or toys with people or other dogs, but did have a snarly moment towards our other dog when she had an extra special tasty treat (she had no problem with me taking it away from her though). She has also done some territorial marking inside but is otherwise mostly house-trained. Kelly really, really loves her people and is always trying to be close to you and lick your face, so she might do some jumping up when she’s excited. She will also definitely jump right on top of you if you’re lying on the couch to snuggle and get belly rubs. People are her favourite, but she’s also dog friendly and is polite to other dogs on leash as well, and she pays little to no attention to kitties or other small animals. Kelly is nervous and skittish in new environments, and took some gentle coaxing, cuddles, treats and encouragement to be comfortable in the house (now she is Queen of the house). She can also be nervous out on walks (that’s a big scary world out there), however, even within one week she has gone from being completely terrified of every movement or sound on a walk to being completely comfortable even on a new route. She does well on leash about 50% of the time, with the other 50% forgetting she’s attached to a human with some pulling or wandering off. Kelly may not be ‘classically’ trained in traditional obedience or fun tricks (she can sit for a treat), but she has proven to be a very good girl and very intuitive to human requests such as “come”, “stay” and “go get it” and even “heel”, so she would really excel with further training. She did well meeting some kids on leash and I believe she would do well living with children with calm introductions and proper boundaries. Note Kelly is a strong, sturdy girl and won’t hesitate to sit on you!

Kelly is being fostered in Calgary.
