Pogo

Pogo is just about the sweetest, goodest girl there ever was. She looks at you with those milk chocolate eyes and you can’t help but melt. Whoever adopts her is going to get a dream temperament and the very best cuddle buddy.

Pogo didn’t have the ideal first year of her life before making her trip to Calgary. As a result, she’s a little behind in some areas of socialization and manners. That said, she’s settling in beautifully and gaining confidence every single day.

Here are some highlights and areas we’re working on:

Smart & Eager to Learn
Pogo is wicked smart. In just one week, she learned to trust me, conquered stairs, discovered what treats are, improved her leash manners, and embraced the joys of having her own stuffy and couch cuddles. She has learned her name and understands a few commands (wait, come, let’s go, stay). She is also the quickest housebreaker I have ever had in all my years with dogs. She has never had an accident in the house, aside from a few tiny overexcited dribbles.

Temperament
Pogo wants to please you so badly that she truly tries her best at all times. Once she understands something isn’t allowed, she makes a real effort not to repeat it. I can’t express enough what an absolute sweetheart she is. She insists on napping with her head on my shoulder and shows her love with the gentlest little kisses.

Confidence & Socialization
Pogo can be startled by loud noises or strangers who get into her space too quickly. She is also cautious around unfamiliar dogs on walks. The good news is that these moments are happening less and less as her confidence grows. When she feels unsure around another dog, her response is to calmly create space and turn her head away. She has never shown negative reactivity. She has been tested with children over six and with other dogs, and she does well. She continues to improve with other dogs every day, and I expect that progress to continue.

Food & Crate Habits
Pogo is a good eater. She shows no signs of resource guarding and seems to self-regulate well. She is becoming more comfortable in her crate. While she rarely chooses to go in on her own for comfort, she goes in willingly at bedtime and when I leave the house. Once inside, she is completely quiet. She can get very excited when let out in the morning or after I’ve been away, but that excitement is decreasing as her confidence and trust grow.

Vocalization & Separation
Pogo isn’t particularly vocal. A daily, mandatory mail carrier greeting (mostly copying the resident dog) is about the extent of it. No begging, no whining, and no noticeable separation anxiety.

Walks & Adventures
Pogo is great on walks. She loves a good sniff session and behaves very nicely. She has, however, picked up the Chihuahua habit of spreading her “deposits” far and wide. Consider yourself warned.

Chewing
Pogo loves to chew. Truly loves it with her whole heart. Anything that smells beefy, cheesy, or bone-like is fair game, so I recommend keeping plenty of sturdy chews on hand. Treats were a foreign concept at first, but she’s catching on quickly and already understands her share of the cheese tax.

Car Rides
Pogo does just fine in the car. She would always prefer to be right beside you, so some form of seatbelt or secure harness would be best for everyone’s safety.

Pogo is an amazing dog. I cannot wait to watch someone fall head over heels in love with her.
