🐾 Skeletor (aka “Skelly”) — The Sunshine-Loving Cuddle Bug

Have you ever wanted a dog that seems like he is half-cat? Look no further than Skeletor! Skelly loves laying in puddles of sunshine and nudging your hand for pets. Skeletor is the sweetest little cuddle bug who will put his head on your lap, and he is most content just sitting on a blanket near you.

He is a quiet little guy, and he has an adorable system of communication. He doesn’t bark at random noises or make much sound. In fact, he only woofs to talk to you. He has the cutest “awoo” to complain about something, like if he has just arrived inside from a cold walk or if you put a blanket on him when he doesn’t want it.

Skeletor is house-trained, but he is so quiet that he will not tell you when he needs to go. If you take him out before work, after work, and right before bed, he will have no accidents. Skelly doesn’t like when the snow is taller than him, but he will go outside in any weather anyway. He loves short walks and is fantastic on a leash. Skeletor really is the perfect blend of active and cozy.

His current fosters are at work for a full workday, but they have a camera and often see him laying in sunlight, sleeping in his open crate, and generally just chilling. He doesn’t appear to have separation anxiety, but he does give a small complaining “awoo” when they get home and immediately demands a round of cuddles.

Skeletor was on the streets of California for a while, so he arrived underweight. Since coming into BARC’s, he has gained much of his missing weight. Despite his experiences, he is quickly regaining his appetite and is a confident dog who likes meeting new people. We suspect he lived in a home previously because he is fantastic with routines. He is just starting to open up to play with running and chasing games as he recovers from his time on the streets. He can become bouncy and playful for short moments with a bit of encouragement. His response to other pets is currently unknown.

Skeletor would do best in a home without children. He is not inherently aggressive, but if his boundaries are crossed, he can bite. The instances of him nipping happened more frequently at the beginning of his stay, and as he settled in, he has become much more peaceful. His fosters have noticed these behaviours decrease drastically as trust is built. He is now almost entirely comfortable with the harness, though he does get stressed when they try to fully put on a winter jacket (his fosters do have tips and tricks for this). Skeletor is a sweet dog, and his interactions with guests in the home who are not doing these things are entirely positive.

Skeletor is a well-trained and kind dog who loves cuddles, sunshine, being near people, and also having some quiet time to himself. He is a dog with a lot of love and life to give. Medically, he has a small heart murmur, may have some difficulty seeing, and he isn’t neutered yet, but the vet felt he had a clean bill of health overall. Skeletor is learning what it’s like to be a dog again and discovering how to play. He needs a home where people want to spend time beside him and cuddle this amazing dog.

Beware: If you meet him, you will fall in love with him. 🐾💛
