Meet Smokey!
A young, loving, spunky pup who’s looking for a forever home to settle into and feel safe for good. At about a year old, she still gets bursts of that silly puppy energy but is also quite content chilling and sun bathing all day. She just goes with the flow of her people’s energy! She settles in her kennel during the day while her foster is at work with no problems. Although she grew up in the streets then a shelter, she is amazing indoors and completely house trained as well. Her favourite spots are the couch and her foster mom’s bed, where she likes to stock pile her toys and play with them all at once, likely because she has never had many toys. That said, she is never possessive over them and is happy for another friend to join in - human or dog! She is a very cuddly girl and wants nothing but love and affection from her people. She will throw herself at you for attention and will try her best to impress you with little spins and jumps when excited!
She enjoys going for walks and is getting better at not pulling while on leash. She knows her name and is learning more English words. Her recall is improving a lot as well, but not enough to trust her off leash yet! She is still quite fearful of new people and dogs but warms up after meeting them a few times. She has yet to meet any children but would likely be good with them as long as they are able to stay calm around her. When she gets scared, she can be avoidant and likes to retreat to one of her safe places (often the corner of the couch when company is over so she can still keep an eye on everyone) until she works up the courage to be social and get to know everybody which doesn’t take long. She will sometimes let out a little bark if a stranger makes a fast or sudden movement but is never aggressive at all. You can tell she really likes people/ dogs and wants to be social but just doesn’t have the confidence and needs a “hype man” to work up the courage sometimes.
Her best friend at the moment is a large male dog who she is learning a lot from. She is also living with a small dog who she is doing great with as well. Smokey would do best in a home with another dog to continue building her confidence and showing her the ropes. Her ideal home is one that can offer patience, security, and most of all love. She has not been tested with cats but would likely do fine with one as she is pretty calm. She has made phenomenal progress so far and is coming out of her shell a little more every day!
