Buca is an extremely sweet, curious, and cuddly puppy! She loves people, and loves sitting politely while getting lots of pets. She is a little timid around other dogs, but she is curious and is very gentle and polite with her introductions to other dogs on less. She is also very curious about children, she wasn’t around any in our home but I expect she would do very well with kids. She is very comfortable with being touched and pet, and lets her foster parents inspect her paws/ears/mouth with no issues! We think she would do well with any people in the household as long as they like pets and cuddles! She was not around any cats in our home, I anticipate she would be pretty timid around cats at first but would adjust quickly if there was one in the household.
Buca loves playing with toys! She has a select few that she loves sleeping with and because she’s still teething, she loves a good ball to chew on. Buca is also still getting house-trained. She will go to the bathroom on walks and has been receiving a lot of positive reinforcement for this. She has been starting to let her foster parents know when she may have to go to the bathroom (pacing, whining, or the occasional bark), but if she has to go and can’t get outside, she will usually find a quiet corner to go in. If she is taken out on a walk or bathroom break she will go on the grass, it might take a bit of waiting though!
Buca loves going in her crate to chew on toys or to take a nap but does get a bit anxious when she is left in there with the door closed. This was most noticeable at night time, she gets quite stressed out being in her crate at night and this leads to her barking. But her foster parents were working on getting her used to being in the crate for short stints and giving her positive reinforcement for being calm and quiet! If she is not left in her crate overnight she lays down on her bed and sleeps extremely well, sleeping the entire night on her bed with no issues. Crate training for overnight is a work in progress, but if her adopted family is patient I think she would do well! When Buca has been left alone during the day, her foster parents have tried both crating her and putting her in a puppy-proofed room with her bed and open crate available. She does well being in a room where she has some space to move around but still has her crate or bed to lay in. But her foster parents are continuing to get her used to being in a crate when they can! Buca is also very relaxed in the car, she will lay down on someone’s lap or sleep through most car rides.
Buca is learning how to walk on a leash but this is also a work in progress! She loves to adventure around and explore but if she is tired, she prefers to lay in the grass and smell around. She is starting to understand the command ‘come’ and is very responsive to a treat or two to get her going!
I don’t think Buca would do as well with a family who needs to leave her at home for lengthy periods of time every day throughout the day and evening. A regular work day would probably be okay eventually, but because she is still young, she seems to do best with 4-5 hours alone. I think she would do well with other animals in the household with some slower introductions. But she seems to be a very adaptable puppy so once she learns a new routine, I think she would be okay!
