Meet Ambrosia! 💕
Ambrosia is a sweet, loyal, and affectionate little shepherd mix who is looking for a patient family that will continue to show her that the world isn’t such a scary place. She can be fearful in new situations, but she is not shut down. When something worries her, she will often choose to give it space rather than react aggressively. With patience, guidance, and trust, she is learning to navigate new experiences—and she has already made so much progress in just one week!
Her shepherd side makes her incredibly smart and eager to learn. She picks things up quickly and is very responsive to gentle guidance. Ambrosia initially showed some fear-based resource guarding of her people around our other dogs, but she has already learned that this isn't necessary. A simple verbal correction is enough to redirect her, and we have seen a lot of improvement in a very short time. She has not shown any resource guarding toward either me or my husband however I don’t want to brush off that she did with the previous foster family. We believe this behavior is rooted in insecurity and fear, and once Ambrosia trusts her people and understands that she doesn't need to protect them, she settles beautifully. Her adoptive family may need to help her through this transition again, but with proper management and consistency, we believe she will continue to improve.
Because of her history of resource guarding, we feel Ambrosia would do best with older, dog-savvy children, or with a family who is willing to carefully manage interactions while she settles in and becomes comfortable. She has all the potential to become an amazing family dog; she just needs a little patience and guidance at the beginning.
Ambrosia is dog-friendly and loves to play! We think she would benefit from having a confident, well-balanced dog in her new home who can help show her the ropes and give her some extra confidence. She will need an active family who can keep her body and mind busy while continuing to build her confidence.
As for cats, we would recommend a cat-free home. Ambrosia has shown prey drive toward cats she has seen while out on walks, so we don't believe a home with cats would be the best fit for her.
At home, Ambrosia is doing wonderfully. She is potty trained and does well loose in the house when her people are home. She sleeps peacefully in her own bed right next to ours and doesn't need to be crated overnight. When left alone, however, we do crate her because she is a clever girl who may find her own ways to entertain herself—and possibly keep her belly full! Better safe than sorry! 😉 She also travels well in the car.
Ambrosia is quite petite for a shepherd, making her a wonderful size. She has the perfect balance of playful and laid-back, and once she feels safe with you, she absolutely loves to snuggle.
If you're looking for a gentle, loyal, playful girl with a big heart, Ambrosia may be the perfect match for you. She just needs a family who will give her a little time, a little patience, and the confidence to learn that she doesn't have to be afraid. In return, you'll get a sweet companion who is eager to love, learn, play, and become the very best version of herself. ❤️
