Tellulah is a lovable, wiffly, and smart girl who really comes out of her shell once she feels safe and comfortable. She loves her people, tough chew toys, bones and Kongs, belly rubs, watching cars go by, and zooming around the backyard with her doggy friends. She may be shy and nervous at first, but once she settles in, her silly personality shines, and if she's feeling extra playful, she'll happily initiate a game of chase!
Tellulah does wonderfully with other dogs when introduced slowly and properly, and a confident dog sibling would be a wonderful bonus to help her build confidence. She has not yet been tested with cats or children, so these introductions would need to be slow and supervised. She is very gentle, so I imagine she would do well with both. She can be nervous around new people, particularly men, and does best when given the time and space to warm up at her own pace.
She would thrive in a home that knows her boundaries and encourages her to step out of her comfort zone at her own pace. She is newly house trained and will need continued guidance as she learns the rules of a new home. She is very smart, but because she is young and curious, management such as baby gates, tethering, redirection, and providing plenty of appropriate things to chew will help her succeed.
Being a pitbull mix, Tellulah is very muscular, and her smaller stature should not be underestimated. She is generally good on leash but is strong and can be stubborn, so her loose-leash skills will need continued work. She is also great in the car, although she may become anxious and pace or pant during stressful trips. If she could have it her way she would have her entire head and body hanging out the window to feel the breeze.
Tellulah is currently on anxiety medication to alleviate her day-to-day stress, with gabapentin used as needed on particularly anxious days. She does not show signs of separation anxiety, but quick movements, sudden noises, new environments, and meeting new people can be overwhelming for her. A wire kennel is strongly recommended over a plastic kennel or closed-off room, as being able to see her surroundings helps her feel secure. She has not found her voice yet, so she is generally quiet. However, if she is stressed out, she may whine or do the classic pittie squeal for short periods of time. With time, ideally the anxiety medication will help to reduce her stress and anxiety responses and will help her gain more confidence in venturing beyond her safe places.
She is also on a strict hypoallergenic diet while her food sensitivities are being identified. Her confirmed allergies currently include chicken and peanut butter, so she requires hypoallergenic food and treats and no human food (this includes cheese, sorry!).
Tellulah will thrive with a patient, understanding family who respects her boundaries and understands her history, while gently helping her build confidence. A home with space to explore, structure, outdoor room to run, and ideally a confident canine companion would be wonderful for her. She may take some time to trust you, but once she does, you'll discover a goofy, affectionate girl who will make you laugh every day. 💕
