Joey is a gentle, timid, but curious dog who is slowly but surely starting to love exploring the world around him. Joey is great on a leash! While he is interested in bunnies and squirrels, he mostly just observes them with a thoughtful stare and a tail wag. Joey also loves to sniff every little thing on walks and sometimes just stops to take in the scenery, as if he is really appreciating the view. He is certainly ready for any adventure and is great in the car. While he is polite to other dogs on his walks and is more than happy to say hi briefly, he quickly gravitates to their humans for a good investigative sniff and a pet.
Joey is fully crate and house trained. He knows his routine, and will wait for his daily walks to use the bathroom, but also knows to go to the front door if he really needs to go out. He sleeps through the night without a peep (unless you count his little snores) and often puts himself to bed before his humans do! Sometimes this is accompanied by a small huff, as if it is preposterous that we would stay up so late. His bedtime routine involves making his bed and re-adjusting his blankets until everything is just right. His morning routine is equally cute. Before morning pets can happen, he simply must show off the best downward dog stretch you have ever seen.
Joey can be a bit protective of his food and his favourite people, but this is something he is actively working on and is improving immensely now that he knows food and water will always be available. In his brave moments, Joey absolutely loves to play! He gets the zoomies after a good game of tug-of-war or when you toss him a toy, especially crinkly ones.
Joey is starting to learn what love is like, and he seems to really enjoy it! He loves belly rubs and will fall asleep with his legs straight up in the air waiting for more. He is also learning to snuggle. Right now, that looks like leaning gently against your lap, or if you sit him up like a baby, he will nuzzle right into your neck and go back to sleep.
Joey would thrive in a patient, low to medium energy home that can offer a safe place for him to relax. He has so much love to give and is making progress every day. All he needs now is a furever family to help him feel safe, brave, and ready to let his goofy side shine.
