Meet Lightning!

This little ankle-biter is a homebody with a big personality. This fluffy Aries dude can be stubborn and energetic, but he is also kind and loyal.

Don’t expect Lightning to be a cuddle bug on the couch, but you will most certainly find him laying at your feet while you watch TV, work, make dinner, fold laundry - you get the picture.

He is working on his confidence when he ventures outside. He can be very nervous when he gets too far from home, but with a little reassurance from his human, he will follow where you go. BUT as soon as his environment becomes familiar, he will lead the way - straight home. He does not love walks at dusk, but with a familiar route and more confidence, we think he will really enjoy walks with his human. Ultimately, he would be most happy to have a backyard that he can call his own.

He is a very smart boy. After two nights he learned to do his business outside. If you don’t catch his cues, he will grab hold of your arm or ankle and try to drag you to the door. He is in his teething phase, but is quick to redirect his attention to his favourite teething toy.

Lightning makes friends wherever he goes - human or not. He is submissive in nature and wants everyone to like him. He tries to get his foster brother, Blue (cat), to play and you can visibly see him exercising his self control by laying on the ground when trying to engage in play. He loves playing with other dogs - this is the best way to tucker him out. He would be a wonderful addition to a household with other pets that he could play with.

Although he can get overwhelmed by big groups of people, he warms up fast. When out on walks he seeks out attention from other people out on a stroll. He is not too jumpy and is quick to lay down and let people pet him for a minute - then he’s off to play!

He is great with kids of all ages with slow introductions. If he gets accidentally hurt in a human interaction, be it a gentle headbutt from a kiddo or a small step on his toes, he doesn’t forgive easily and will immediately want to leave the party and go home. He will come around, but it takes time and lots of reassurance from his human.

Lightning would thrive in an environment rooted in consistency and a lifestyle that doesn’t stray too far from home. He gets anxious on car rides. We’re hoping he’ll grow out of it, but in the meantime, its best if you have a ride-along buddy to provide him reassurance during long drives and don’t forget a towel (or two).

He hasn’t figured out what kind of treats he likes, but he enjoys eating his kibble. A slow feeder bowl is essential; otherwise, this pup will eat his food like he’s vying for a hungry hippos championship. His stomach has been pretty sensitive throughout his stay, but he is eating, drinking and playing with enthusiasm.

Lightning is a very good boy who needs a human that will provide him reassurance as he builds his confidence in this world. He will be loyal and loving, learning all your cues quickly and wanting to make you proud. He has won over every person and pet he’s met - there isn’t an environment where he’s shown any sign of dominance or aggression. Whomever adopts him will receive an incredible blessing and a very best friend.
