Meet Marlo — a truly special girl who is going to make someone an incredible companion. ❤️
Her foster family says that if they could adopt her themselves, they would in a heartbeat.
Marlo is sweet, calm, gentle, and patient. She can take a few days to fully warm up and may be nervous around some new people, but once she feels safe, she becomes incredibly loving and loyal. She is the kind of dog who is simply happy to be wherever you are. If you’re relaxing, she is more than happy to curl up and chill, but when it’s time for an adventure, she is ready to go.
Marlo is an excellent walking and running buddy and is nearly perfect on leash. She especially loves hiking and trail running, but she is just as happy strolling along the river or walking downtown. She is an active girl and does best with regular daily walks, runs, and opportunities to get out and explore.
She is house trained, crate trained, and her foster family says they have not heard her bark once!
Marlo has already experienced a lot of different situations in foster care. She has gone camping, ridden in the car and on a boat, visited the office, and spent time around larger groups of people — and she has taken it all in stride.
She has not yet had a direct introduction to children or other dogs in her foster home, so those introductions would need to be done thoughtfully. Based on her behaviour while out on walks, her foster family feels she has shown encouraging signs.
Like any dog, Marlo still has a few things to work on. She can jump up when she gets excited, needs continued reinforcement around furniture boundaries, and is still working on her recall. She is very food motivated, though, which makes training with her rewarding and fun.
One thing to note: Marlo can become excited or reactive when she spots rodents while out on walks, so her future family should be prepared to continue working with her on that.
Marlo really is the full package — affectionate, adventurous, adaptable, and incredibly easy to love. She is looking for a home that will give her the time she needs to build trust, the activity she enjoys, and all the love she deserves. ❤️
