Meet Pepsi, a sweet 4-year-old Dachshund mix. After his previous family welcomed a new baby, their busy home with three children became too overwhelming for Pepsi. This little guy is much more suited to a quieter life where he can relax, feel secure, and soak up all the attention.
Pepsi needs someone who is patient, able to carry him when required, willing to purchase him seasonal clothing and to take on his chronic and probably life-long medical needs. He also 'needs' belly rubs and blankets to snuggle in. He has not been tested with cats at this time.
Pepsi has never had an accident in the house. I take him out to the yard at least 2x per day and we walk 3x per day. For our walks, Pepsi goes in a dog stroller. He loves getting outside and going in his chariot. I take him out of the stroller a few times along the way to meet other dogs, get some exercise, go to the bathroom, and have his sniffers. He is most energetic on our mid-morning walk rather than our mid-afternoon and evening walks. He decides how long he wants to walk for, it varies with the time of day and how he is feeling. I try to take him out at high traffic dog areas so he can do his sniffing.
Pepsi enjoys meeting people and dogs on his walks and gets along well with most, especially those around his size. He also loves relaxing in the yard on nice days and soaking up the sunshine. At night, he’s a champ at sleeping in his own bed and doesn’t need a crate!
Pepsi has some medical issues that cause pain and stiffness in his front legs, making walks slow and short. While his right foot is more misshapen, his left foot and leg cause him more discomfort. Due to his soreness and fear, Pepsi can be cranky when being picked up or moved, sometimes groaning, growling, or snarling. He may continue to grumble a little even once he feels more comfortable, but he is generally accepting of being moved once settled. Pepsi will need a patient, understanding home that respects his discomfort, handles him gently, and helps him feel safe.
Pepsi is currently on 3 medications: one for pain, one anti-inflammatory and one for calming. When the medications have kicked in, Pepsi is a happy, playful boy whose tail wags vigorously when he is around people or playing with toys.
This boy deserves a home where he will be taken care of. He would do well in a calm, quiet, predictable home. He is fine with another dog as long as the other dog is not overly rambunctious.
