Description
Male, 10 years, shih tzu, 18 lbs
Coda is a little guy with a lot of personality… and a lot of tongue! He takes a little bit to warm up but once he does, he falls in love with his people. Snuggles, soft squeaky toys, and snacks are some of Coda’s favourite things.
Coda has come a long way in just one week. He loves getting his harness on, but he gets a little intimidated once out and about; multiple short walks a day with plenty of treats seem to be the key to getting this cutie more comfortable outdoors! Coda is also almost completely house trained, it is obvious that he knows, and wants, to do his business outside but because he is in a new environment he doesn’t always know how to ask – but he is learning!
Coda didn’t have much training, but he has mastered Sit and Down and we are working on Focus and Come with him now – he is a smart cookie but does have a stubborn streak. He does not appear to have any experience being crate trained, as a result he does cry in the crate but with rewards/treats this is improving everyday! Though currently Coda’s true happy spot is sleeping at the end of a soft bed!
Coda is good with cats! He is curious but cautious with them, in just a week he and the cats are walking side-by-side without any worries. Coda is tolerant of dogs but does not take any interest in playing or interacting with them and can be protective of his space. He may be happier as the only dog in the home.
Coda will curl his lip and snarl or snap at strangers if they approach him when he is sleeping on his bed – we have been working on this with him and he seems more relaxed everyday but continual desensitization training around this is encouraged. Coda hasn’t shown himself to be a yappy dog, the only time he seems to vocalize in his crate or with small whines when he wants to sit next to you on the couch!
Coda hasn’t been tested with children but because of his current tendency to nip when approached during sleep he may do better in a house without any young kids.
Coda is comfortable in the car; he usually curls up on the seat or the floor and goes to sleep.
Coda is completely adorable; I mean look at that tongue! Someone will be incredibly lucky to have him.
Coda is being fostered in Edmonton.
