BackFlip Flop
Adopted
Description
Female, 9 months German shepherd, 58 lbs
Flip Flop settled into her foster home right away! She is a very sweet and silly girl. She has a lot of puppy energy and loves to play. Since she is still fairly young, she does display a few puppy traits. When she is very excited and hyper, she will jump up and occasionally do very gently puppy “bites”. She understands and responds very well to “uh uh” and generally stops these behaviours immediately. With some training and correction work, I do not see this being an issue.
She is very smart too. She knows most basic commands such as “sit”, “stay”, “wait”, “no”, “off”, “down” and “come” and listens very well.
Flip Flop had an injured paw when she came to Canada. She has seen the vet and had this injured toe removed. However, her whole paw is slightly deformed, probably from a previous injury. Her “flipper” as we call it, does not slow her down at all! She still loves to run (or should I say gallop!) and play. Plus, with the amputation of the sore toe, she should be just fine.
Her paw does not seem to bother her at all. She currently has bandages on the paw, these will get removed very soon. She will still have stitches for the next few weeks so any adoption prospect will have to monitor these stitches and take her to the vet to get them removed.
As we are trying to keep her paw clean and dry, she has only been on a few short and gentle walks around the neighbourhood. She is very good on leash, does not pull or seem to have any interest in small animals (rabbits and squirrels) or other dogs on leash. She is very full of energy, so anyone interested in adopting should be prepared to walk her a lot.
She has not met any small kids or cats, but I feel she would do fine with children who have had some experience with dogs. As mentioned before, she does jump up and play bite, so that is something to consider around children. She currently has a foster sister, a 4-year-old female French Bulldog named Finn. Flip Flop is very interested in Finn and wants to play with her all day long. Finn however is less interested. Finn will tell Flip Flop when she is being too much, Flip Flop does not always understand or back down. So, this behaviour will have to be monitored and corrected. She shows no sign of aggressive behaviour and rarely barks.
She has had one accident in the house (this was within hours of first coming home, so it was very understandable). Since then, she has had zero accidents and is very good at waiting by the front door to be let out. She does not bark so maybe a bell system or some way for her to signal when she needs to go to the bathroom would be beneficial. She loves toys but is a strong chewer so the tougher the toy the better. She quickly demolished anything with stuffing! She is also great in the car, very calm and quiet.
She is a wonderful and sweet dog who loves to play and get cuddles. Flip Flop will make a great addition to her new home. An active family with room for her to run and play would be ideal!
Flip Flop is being fostered in Calgary.
