Promise

Adopted

Description

Female, 3 years, pit bull X, 50 lbs

Promise is a sweet, gentle soul who loves to snuggle and hang out with her people. She likes to start her day off on the couch with a nap with her person ideally. She isn’t high energy so a couple a walks around the neighbourhood and some time with toys during the day seems to be enough. She likes to be where the people are and her favourite place is on the couch snuggling. She loves belly rubs! She will also supervise while you do household chores! She likes going for car rides and exploring new areas and smells.

Promise isn’t a fan of rain or snow it seems. It took her a few days to do stairs and will only go down the outside stairs as the inside stairs are steeper than normal. She can be startled by unexpected noises on walks but some encouraging words (or treats) will get her back on track. She is pretty good on leash already. She does need a bit of work when she sees other dogs on walkies. She definitely wants to meet them!
She is a foody and has a healthy appetite. After a couple of days she has learned not to put paws on the table or counter. She is quite smart and learns quickly. She comes when called but may not know how to sit (she doesn’t for us anyway) so some training would help with that.

She has been a pretty chill dog only barking when bears are nearby or if she sees herself in the mirror or reflection in the windows. We enjoy hearing her voice and seeing the bounce in her step. She’s a great dog if you are working from home. She likes to make appearances on Zoom meetings from time to time much to the delight of the other attendees. She spends the nights in her kennel and goes in fairly easily with a treat. I’m sure she would be happy to sleep elsewhere though! She enjoyed being part of our Halloween and being around the table while we carved pumpkins.

She has been living with kids ages 6 and 9 as well as a smaller female terrier cross dog. With a slow and proper introduction she seems to do well with other dogs. She hasn’t been tested with cats. As we are working from home, Promise has not been left alone by herself at all. She is good with kids but given her size and foodiness, it may be best if the kids are not too young or loud as she is a sensitive girl. We have been very structured taking her outside regularly as well as when she asks so she seems house-trained as we haven’t had any accidents yet.

Her best placement would be where people have lots of time to spend with her snuggling on a couch and going for walks and seeing the outdoors (weather permitting of course!). Did I mention she likes car rides! It won’t take long for her to feel like part of the family. Some obedience training would help her be an even better dog. Patience and encouraging words as she learns a new routine would set her up for success in her new home. And some stuffies to play with and destroy!

We have enjoyed getting to know Promise and helping her decompress from her trip. She is such a wonderful dog it will be hard to see her go. The other dog in the house comes in hot and chirpy from time to time and while Promise handles it well, we feel it is best for Promise to be placed in a home where she doesn’t need to worry about those things and can be her best self. We will miss her Scooby-Doo impression when she has her ears up and head tilted sideways.

Promise is being fostered in Trail, BC.
