Ava

Adopted

Description

Female, 1 year, bully X, 43 lbs

Ava girl is sweet, loving, and eager to please. If shown love, she will show equal love back if not more. Each day her personality unfolds and it’s safe to say she is a very silly, quirky, and an all around great dog. She is very calm and definitely a sucker for cuddles. She is kennel trained and has no problem sleeping all night (or being put away in the day) as long as a treat is provided once settled in. Her kennel has become a safe place as somewhere she can go if she feels overwhelmed or tired.

She had a few minor accidents in the house as she doesn’t quite know how to let you know that she has to do her business. As long as she is taken outside every few hours, there should be no problem with accidents. She has also learnt to do her business in a dog run, and will be fine to learn a new spot as long as consistent training is provided.

Ava needs lots of practice on recall as she is still very independent and doesn’t really see the need to come when called! That being said, she is very eager and smart and in the past 2 weeks has learnt to sit, lay down, paw, and look. Ava is still learning to walk on a leash as she believes she is the alpha, which results in occasional pulling.

Ava is nervous around strangers and unfamiliar males, but is improving everyday with lots of treats and reassurance. Sometimes her fear will result in barking that sounds more intimidating then she actually is. Ava’s biggest challenge is her current perception and relationship with others dogs. Ava shows aggression towards others dogs and has been working towards understanding that not all dogs are bad. She has made incredible progress and improvement over the last 2 weeks. With lots is slow introductions and practice, she is now able to walk within a few feet of another dog!

Ava is a great adventure partner. Her most recent adventure to dinosaur provincial park proved that this doggo loves to explore! She enjoyed sleeping in the tent, playing in the river, and climbing to the top of the highest hoodoo with no fear. She was also able to maintain hanging out in a small corridor next to her dog cousin with no issues.

Ava is looking for a loving home with patience as she puts a lot of trust into her people, and is still young. She has incredible potential, and will need consistent training to improve her reactiveness. Ava has a special place in her fosters hearts, and we know she will capture the heart of whoever adopts her.

Ava is being fostered in Calgary.
