Riley

Adopted

Description

Female, 3 years, Lab X, 59 lbs

Riley is a bit shy at first but once she gets used to her surroundings, she would make the sweetest dog. She loves to walk and is a sweetheart around the house. She eats her food and bigger fan of wet food than dry (fond of beef/bacon flavor treats). When walking outside loves to hang around with other dogs and sometimes with smaller dogs, but she does need and love the social interaction of other dogs. She loves to chase small animals like rabbits and squirrels during our walk (tries to pull you with her leash). I do not know how she will behave with cats as we never had the opportunity to introduce them but given her nature to dominate smaller animals I think it would not be a fit at homes with cats (or maybe needs to get better introduced to cats) or even other smaller pets (rabbits, rats). She has not barked once, has been well trained to go potty outside the house but needs to be trained to obey other basic commands. During our walks she likes humans and seems good around children but needs a bit more training in commands.

In summary,
* A bit shy at the beginning but will soon trust you and love the attention so likes to get petted all times.
* Good with dogs in general, sometimes good with smaller dogs (likes to pounce and play but in good way which may try to seem like threat to other dogs)
* Likes to chase smaller animals so may not be too good with cats or other smaller animals (not fully tested with cats).
* Maybe more training needed to play with toys (have three of them, including a ball, but she doesn't seem to care much for any toy)
* Does not bark, likes to lick, and is trained to go potty outside the house.
* Need a partner dog to play and engage with, might not be good if she is the only pet at home.

Likes - Walks, playing with other dogs, petting, rubs on ears and belly rubs, chasing around
Dislikes - Picky with some treats (likes bacon flavored ones), separation anxiety

Ideal home would have enough space for her to move around outside with good fence and definite need of other dogs as she likes to be around other dogs.

Riley is being fostered in Calgary.
