Rogue

Adopted

Description

Male, 6 years, pit bull X, 50 lbs

Rogue has been an incredible house guest. It didn't take him long at all to settle in. He has impeccable house manners, has not had a single accident and is very clear when he needs to go outside. He has already settled into a routine of a walk early in the morning for bathroom, then throughout the day he will use the back yard, in the evening then again he is excited to go for his evening walk for bathroom break. We have been flexible on lengths of walks and he is happy to walk for as long or as short as his human chooses. We changed walking tools from his harness that he arrived in to a gentle leader, and as soon as he saw it he became so excited. He has clearly been trained with one and walks like a gentleman on it.

While on our walks he ignores all the people, bikes, cars and big dogs. Small dogs get his attention but with a kind 'leave it, lets go' he continues to walk on. No barking, no talking, just trying to stretch his leash to meet them. Through the fence in the yard, he could care less about who walk past. If another dog passes he will go up to the fence, but not bark or charge, just walk the fence line hoping someone will come to meet him. Amazing manners.

We have 4 children from 8-14 in the house and he is incredible with all of them! He does not jump up, he does not push his weight around. He is more than happy to cuddle up on the couch with them and watch TV for as long as they will sit with him. He falls asleep nightly on their laps while they are reading their bedtime stories. He is permitted on the furniture sometimes, but also knows to stay off when asked and sleeps on his own bed. He has a choice cow hoof - no bones, no stuffies, no ropes, no balls as of yet interest him. He has not gotten a hold of anything he shouldn't. He's currently not a fan of his kennel during the day so we are leaving it open for him to go and sleep in, or get his bones from and he is happy to sleep inside with the door open. That being said he does get free reign of the house for the 4hours he is home alone and I can almost guarantee he sleeps the entire time.

He loves his car rides! Knows the word, knows the sound of the keys! And sits like the gentleman he is on whatever seat he is told to sit on. The only time I have heard him bark is when I have said "car ride" or "walk" and he does his excited talking to me to try to encourage me to move faster to get outside with him.

We also have a cat in the house - a kitten- a spunky kitten- and once she got brave enough to be in the same room with Rogue, she quickly learned that Rogue did not want anything to do with her. He does not chase her, does not respond to her swatting his tail or walking past his legs.

Someone has spent a lot of time with this fellow and it shows. I would keep him in a heartbeat if my situation was just a little bit different. He will make the best hiking, walking, exploring, boating, netflixing, chilling partner to the lucky person willing to bring an older gentleman into their home! I cannot say enough good things about this boy. Upon meeting people, he is indifferent. After around them for a few minutes, he will saunter up to them for some head pets and then be on his way. He has not shown any sort of fear or preference to anyone we have come in contact with - hats, hoods, glasses, tall, short, stroller, bike - no response. This boy is a gem!

Rogue is being fostered in Fernie, BC.
