Patti

Patti’s a pretty little Pittie likely mixed with Catahoula Leopard Dog (a high energy hunting dog). She’s high energy, very smart, and super food motivated. Oh, and she’s adorable, sweet, loving, and just needs a chance.

Patti’s basically spent her entire life in a shelter. She’s hasn’t had a chance to bond with a human, solidify her basic commands, or socialize the same way most puppies do, so she’s a bit behind. But she’s quickly catching up since heading into foster care. She’s a little unaware when it comes to reading other dog’s cues, so while she’s VERY dog friendly, she does come on (and stay on) strong. She would do best with a dog who can teach her boundaries, while having patience with her while she gets the hang of it. She’s really smart, and picks up on things very quickly, so it won’t take her long to learn all her basic manners. She is eager to please.

Patti LOVES to play, and loves toys. She regularly removes every toy from the toy bucket and then naps in the centre of her toy pile when she finally “powers down”. Patti loves to snuggle in with her special blankie (that will follow her to her furever home) and can often be found tucked in tight on the couch with it.

Patti needs a special home to help her succeed. Her play style will easily earn her some negative attention until she figures out boundaries and reading other dog’s cues. For this reason, she should not be allowed to play with other dogs unsupervised until she has some solid manners under her belt. It won’t take her long, but she will need a ton of patience for this. And someone who won’t rush the process, risking her long term success.

I’ve been using a Sidekick by Heather’s Hero’s for Patti, as we’ve been working through her leash training. She’s doing amazing! From chaos to calm in just one “leash”. Her Sidekick will go with her to her furever home, so she can continue being the all star on leash she’s become. She’s not leash reactive, but she is constantly tracking/hunting/smelling the bugs, birds, gophers and anything else that moves quickly on our walks. People and other dogs are interesting to her…but she doesn’t bark or lunge. She’s curious, but easily redirected.

Patti is completely house trained and crate trained. She struggles with separation anxiety, and is currently medicated for it and is doing very well. She started meds before she came to our home, so while I haven’t seen the extent of it, I suspect her anxiety is from never having a stable home, and being in a shelter almost her entire life. I truly believe once Patti realizes she’s home for good, she won’t need meds anymore.

Patti’s been with us for just over a month now and has really come a long way. She’s finally settling in and leaving her shelter life behind her. If you think you can give this little spitfire the furever home she needs to excel, please click on her link and let’s set up a meet and greet!

Patti is approx 15 months old, and is 42lbs. She does appear to be suffering from allergies, but after switching her to a fish based protein kibble and a few medicated baths, she’s doing great. Most pitties have sensitive skin, and this sweetheart is no different. This one in particular gets red eyes and itchy paws. But she’s doing so much better with these small changes.

She’s the perfect size for any adventure, and she’s ALWAYS ready to go!
