Carlisle

Adopted

Description

Male, 10 years, Lab X, 76 lbs

Carlisle is a senior gentleman looking for a quiet comfortable retirement home. He spends most of his time sleeping. He likes to be near his humans and does get distressed when he thinks he is alone. He is however content in a room alone but if awake likes to be nearby. Carlisle is extremely gentle. He sleeps in his crate at night and is completely housetrained. He has no food aggression and travels in a car well.

He is currently recovering from surgery; he is now neutered and had several dental extractions. He is generally in good health but cannot go for long walks. He does have neurological damage in his hind end so his legs will splay when on smooth floors but that doesn’t seem to affect his agility when he is on carpet or grass.

Carlisle is generally well behaved but not particularly responsive to commands. His foster thought he had not been taught basic commands but now thinks they just have not been enforced for a long time and perhaps he is also hard of hearing. It goes to his gentle personality that he has gotten through life without having proper manners. Carlisle needs to learn to focus his attention on his handler. Now that Carlisle is cleared for exercise, they are working on proper leash manners as he pulls excessively but they are seeing some behavior modification. Carlisle will need someone experienced who can help him relearn proper manners. He has been good with cats and kids in a previous foster home but needs work on his dog-to-dog skills.

Carlisle will do best in a quiet calm home where his people are home a lot. At this point, he probably would do better as an only dog and until his leash skills are better, he needs a fenced yard. He is a sweet boy who just wants scratches and pets.

Carlisle is being fostered in Calgary.
